Some people use Akadama straight while others have it as part of a mix. Often one that contains pumice and lava, though there are plenty of other combinations. We suggest hard fired Akadama for all but the driest climates.
We call this smallest grain shohin size. You can use it for small trees, but some growers also use it for larger, old specimen bonsai too.
1 quart bag very small grain (1-3 mm) hard fired Akadama soil.
