Hemithrinax ekmaniana, Trinac, Jumagua Palm Tree Tropical Rare

Hemithrinax ekmaniana, Trinac, Jumagua Palm hails from the open forests of Cuba. An endemic palm of Mogotes de Jumagua in northern Cuba, this absolutely unique little treasure, survives only on three of the small mogotes where less than 100 specimens cling to the steep Limestone cliffs.

H. ekmaniana is a medium sized solitary, palmate fan palm, with very tightly grouped leaves, the crown grows into a spiny giant ball. A seed collection picked in 1996 by specialists of Palmetum of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, resulted in various plants now growing in a handful of Botanical Gardens; specimens can be found growing at the Montgomery Botanical Center in Miami, Palmetum de Santa Cruz in the Canary Islands, Orto botanico di Messina in Italy, Jardín Botánico de Las Tunas, in Cuba, and most recently in Nancy Botanic Gardens (France), where its is reported that 2 plants are growing well.

The Jumagua Palm grows a slender trunk to 2”  in diameter which holds a perfectly spherical and very dense crown of stiff, spiky leaves that have almost no stalks, and therefore sit very close together. While it grows rather slowly, requiring about 6 years until it starts forming a trunk, it is definitely well worth the wait for this outstanding miniature palm. It will do well in a tropical and a number of warm temperate climates given a position in full sun. It can also take considerable coastal exposure.

Until 2007 no commercial distribution of this plant was ever made, as in 2007 for the first time, seeds collected in the wild entered in the commercial seed trade, and reached many growers in various areas of the world.

Hemithrinax ekmaniana, Jumagua Palm: Probably one of the rarest palms on the planet.

my puppy's favorite!
Color: Pink
I recently bought this chew toy for my puppy, and it has been a fantastic addition to his toy collection! Durability: This toy is impressively durable. My puppy loves to chew, and it has held up really well against his enthusiastic gnawing. Design: The design is great! It’s the perfect size for my puppy to carry around, and the colors are vibrant and fun. He loves playing with it! Engagement: It keeps him entertained for hours. The texture seems to satisfy his chewing instincts, and it also helps with teething discomfort. Safety: I feel good knowing that it’s made from non-toxic materials. I’ve had no issues with pieces breaking off or causing any problems. Overall, I highly recommend this chew toy for any puppy owner. It’s durable, and engaging, and my puppy absolutely loves it!

Excellent toy for smaller breed puppies
Color: Blue
My 10 week old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppy is obsessed with this toy. It is great for teething, tug, fetch. Pup can’t get enough of it and it is small enough for his mouth to play pretty aggressively and carry, soft enough for his teeth and a nice length of rope. It IS less tough than other Kong brand toys so I imagine it probably isn’t a great option for bigger or tougher breed puppies. But it’s a rare and wonderful find for the smaller breeds. After realizing how enamored my pup is with it, I ordered more of them.

perfect for tiny breeds!
Color: Blue
this toy is the perfect size for my mini dauchshund mix puppy. I looked in several pet stores for a tug of war rope for something for my little two pound pup that wasn't my socks for him to tug on. so many rope toys are aimed for large breeds, and were larger than my dog himself

Cute size but didn’t last
Color: Blue
I love Kong toys. I bought for my two puppies. One is already broke. But still works like a good tug of war rope with a bonus chew bone.
