Anthurium crystallinum

Anthurium crystallinum is a velvet-leaved Anthurium species grown for broad, heart-shaped foliage with a soft surface and pale, crystal-like venation. The leaves rise from a compact crown on firm petioles.

Anthurium crystallinum is native from Panama to Colombia, where it grows in wet tropical forest as an epiphytic subshrub. Mature leaves can become larger in warm, humid, stable conditions when roots stay hydrated and well aerated.

Anthurium crystallinum key traits

  • Growth habit: Compact epiphytic aroid with leaves held above the pot on upright petioles.
  • Leaf shape: Broadly heart-shaped blades with a rounded sinus and tapered lower lobes.
  • Surface: Soft, velvet-textured green foliage with a muted sheen.
  • Venation: Pale primary and secondary veins create the crystal-like pattern behind the name.

Anthurium crystallinum indoor care

  • Light: Provide bright filtered light and protect soft or pale foliage from harsh midday sun.
  • Watering: Water when the upper part of the substrate has started to dry, then drain thoroughly.
  • Substrate: Use a loose Anthurium mix with bark, coco chips, pumice or perlite so roots receive moisture and oxygen.
  • Temperature: Keep warm, ideally around 18–28 °C, and protect from cold wet substrate.
  • Humidity: Moderate to high humidity helps new leaves expand cleanly; pair humidity with gentle airflow.
  • Feeding: Feed lightly during active growth with a diluted complete fertiliser.
  • Repotting: Repot when roots fill the pot or the mix begins to collapse.

Anthurium crystallinum issues to check

  • Yellowing lower leaves: Check for compacted substrate, cool roots or a pot staying wet for too long.
  • Brown edges: Review humidity, watering gaps and fertiliser strength.
  • Distorted new growth: Inspect young leaves for thrips or mites and stabilise humidity.
  • Soft stems or crown: Check root health and improve drainage immediately.

Anthurium crystallinum handling and safety

Anthurium crystallinum should be kept away from pets and children that may chew plant material. Like other Anthuriums, it contains calcium oxalate crystals that can irritate the mouth, throat, skin and eyes.

Anthurium crystallinum name background

Anthurium belongs to the family Araceae. The genus name comes from Greek anthos, meaning flower, and oura, meaning tail, referring to the spadix. The species epithet crystallinum means crystal-like.

Dog is Happy!
Color: 3PC-Peanut Butter-Green, Pattern Name: Tough Dog Toys
My dog likes the bones, especially because they are peanut butter-flavored. The bones are very strong and well-made, so they are good for heavy chewers. By the way, these bones are very large for big dogs only!

They last for months
Color: 3PC-Bacon-Brown, Pattern Name: Tough Dog Toys
This is my second order of this product. I have 2 medium size dogs and they love them. The nice thing is a 3 pack of these is that they will last them for a few months.

My four approve
Color: 3PC-Bacon-Brown, Pattern Name: Tough Dog Toys
My dogs, which I have 4, 2 labradors, one Jack Russell and one medium smallish mixed breed dog, all really love the bones. Three of them seem to be vigorous chewers the mixed breed girl being the toughest one on bones. These bones are holding up really well and the dogs really seem to like them. The dogs have not been able to get any big chunks off of the bones so I feel safe letting them have them even when I’m not watching. I would recommend these to Pet owners.
