As they mature, all varieties are harvested at once and mixed to make the perfect European-style salad, providing a variety of taste sensations from sweet to bitter as well as a dramatic appearance.    

PLANTING

Germination: 4-10 days

Germination Temperature: Optimum soil temperatures 60-70ºF. Soil temperatures above 80ºF inhibit germination.

Seed Sowing Depth: ¼ inch deep

Starting Indoors: Start 3-4 weeks before planting outside. Sow 2-3 seeds per cell/pot, thinning to one per cell/pot. Provide 60-70ºF soil temperatures. Transplant out during spring, 8-12” apart. 

Sowing Outdoors: Spring when the soil temperature reaches at least 50ºF. For baby greens sow heavy seeded rows, 30-40 seeds per foot. Sow every 2-3 weeks for a continuous harvest. For full-sized heads sow a few seeds every 2-4” apart, thin to 8-12”. Keep soil moist during germination. 

How much does a packet plant: Small Packet- 10-12 foot single row 

Harvest: Cut whole heads, full-sized or baby at the base, or snipe off individual leaves.  

Tips: The Garden Mesclun Blend grows best in spring and fall with temperatures under 70ºF. Plant in fertile, well-drained soil. Amend with compost before planting if needed. Provide adequate, even moisture for the best growth. Mulching helps retain moisture.
