It has taken the breeder (Berbee) 30 years to realize this amazing achievement, starting with collecting Amaryllis bulbs at high elevations where frost is common. The result is a line of Garden Amaryllis that is successfully grown outdoors in The Netherlands year round. Ocean Drive is a standout, too, producing 1 to 2 stems, each with 3 to 4 red blooms adorned with contrasting white stripes and green centers. They add island-inspired beauty to bouquets and cut-flower arrangements. Plus, they can be forced indoors just like traditional Amaryllis. We like them planted in containers that can overwinter indoors in colder weather.
