One of our customer favorites! Bocking 14 Comfrey grows rapidly and easily from root cuttings. These are Naturally Grown at our nursery. These are a non-seed producing,non-spreading strain of comfrey (Bocking 14.) It won't spread via seeds but stays in place, expanding slowly as a tidy clump of plants with huge leaves and all the soil and fertility benefits comfrey brings. We have tested it for years- it really does increase soil organic matter and improve soil tilth around fruit trees and other plantings.
Very easy to grow, simply cut the roots into approximately 3-4 inches long cuttings and start them in small plastic pots in potting soil and then transplant later. They take about 2-3 weeks to sprout above ground, sometimes longer. Once started, they grow very rapidly. See our comfrey listing for more information about comfrey.
Crown Cuttings: This is the easiest comfrey cutting to work with. Simply plant them root side down, leaving a few inches of the green stems above the soil, tamp down, water, and keep moist. Within 1-2 weeks they resume growing and will establish a new mature plant within a few months. These can be planted in loose, moist (well-draining) soil or in potting soil in pots, which is recommended for beginners.
