Most succulents belong to the Cactaceae family, or more commonly Cactaceae, which includes about 3000 species and 120 genera. Cactaceae are xerophytic plants that live in arid environments thanks to the accumulation of water inside the succulent tissues. These plants are used mainly as ornamentals and for their ease of cultivation.

Cactaceae are succulent plants that can take on different shapes: there are those with a globular or flattened appearance, those columnar and can live both in large groups and as single plants. These plants are all perennial and mostly native to the New World countries, even if there are species typical of Africa, Madagascar and Sri Lanka; however, most of them can be grown without problems even in our latitudes.

A common characteristic of Cactaceae, often simply called Cactus, from the Greek “Kaktos”, meaning thorny plant, is that of having a root system deep enough to search for water in the depths of the subsoil. They are almost all leafless, at least as we are used to seeing them, and photosynthesis occurs thanks to the stem and strictly at night to avoid losing water.

All plants of this family have solitary, sessile flowers, generally brightly colored, that appear in spring and summer and often remain in bloom for just one night. The fruits are generally fleshy and of variable size, can be covered with thorns and always contain many seeds impregnated with a sugary substance.

Generally these plants are grown for ornamental purposes; many fruits of these plants are edible, the prickly pear among all; in the Andean countries the Cactaceae are also used for the production of light wood for the manufacture of small artefacts, while in Argentina some columnar species are also used for the construction of fences.

Cultivation

In regions where winters are too humid, it is advisable to grow cacti in greenhouses or glass boxes, since they can also survive the night in a very cold environment, as long as it is dry. On the contrary, they could not survive a cold and humid atmosphere.

Potting mixes, preferably made of synthetic material and not terracotta, used to grow Cacti must be particularly porous, so that air can circulate and there is no stagnation of humidity.

It will then be necessary to add very fine sand, grit or brick shards to ensure good drainage. Epiphytic group cacti also require the addition of humus to the compost already in the pot. Leaf mould or peat will be fine and, in any case, the soil must be well drained.
Succulents need heat in the winter, but care must be taken that this is dry heat and that a stagnant atmosphere does not form, which could be a source of humidity.

Good quality for cost
Size: 12 Little Kid, Color: Black
Good quality and comfortable. The strap on the back isn’t as adjustable as we would like. Ribs a little big but very durable.

Good value, works great, just the right size for me
Color: Tea Green, Style: Little Green Mini
I was concerned at first that the clean water/solution tank was small, but it's prefect for my needs. I was able to clean up 4 puppy-pee spots perfectly, and still have half the solution left over that I loaded in. I like that it is really compact so stores easily, that the cord and hose wind up nice and tight, and it can fit in a small space. Cleaning the dirty water tank was a breeze and took 2 minutes. Would recommend for spills and spot cleaning. Very handy and affordable.

Tiny but Mighty Cleaner That Saved My Couch
Color: Tea Green, Style: Little Green Mini, Color: Tea Green, Style: Little Green Mini
I had wanted the Bissell Little Green for the longest time. If you have pets or children, a portable carpet and upholstery cleaner like this can come in very handy. One of my cats unfortunately peed on my couch, and I thought it might be the end of the line for it since it is a power recliner with non removable cushions. I picked this up as a last resort, and honestly also as an excuse to finally buy one. I debated between the plug in and cordless versions, but ultimately chose the corded model because it has almost twice the suction power. At first I thought the suction felt a bit weak, but once I saw the liquid it was pulling up I was very impressed. During the passes I could literally see yellowish liquid being extracted. It was gross and satisfying at the same time. I was also surprised by how brown and dirty the recovered water was. This machine is tiny but mighty. Weighing around 7 pounds, the Little Green is light and easy to carry around the house. It is also a bit quieter than a traditional vacuum. Cleanup is straightforward. You simply remove the dirty water tank and rinse it out. The vacuum head attachment rinses easily as well. For the hose, you can use the self cleaning tool by pressing the nozzle and running water through it for about 30 seconds. There are still some lingering smells, but based on the color of the extracted water it clearly did a lot of work. I just need to do a few more cleaning sessions on my couch. I am glad I finally bit the bullet and gave the Little Green a try. This adorable little machine may have saved me hundreds of dollars compared to hiring a professional cleaner or replacing my couch. Overall, I would absolutely recommend it for pet owners and anyone who needs a reliable upholstery and spot cleaner.

5 Stars for Suction, but the "Drill Brush Hack" makes it 10 Stars
Color: Tea Green, Style: Little Green Mini
I bought the Bissell Little Green Mini to handle the inevitable "kid and pet" messes that don't justify dragging out a full-sized upright. It’s impressively lightweight, about 45% lighter than the original and, in my opinion, seemingly more durable. The 4-foot flexible hose makes it perfect for stairs and car interiors. The Secret Sauce: The Drill Brush Pairing While the included 4" Tough Stain Tool is great for light scrubbing, the real game-changer is pairing this machine with a soft-bristle drill brush. My Process: I spray the stain using the Little Green’s trigger, let it sit for 30 seconds, then use the drill brush on a low setting to agitate the fibers. The Result: This combo lifts deeply embedded dirt and old pet stains that manual scrubbing just can't touch. Once agitated, I use the Little Green’s powerful suction to pull everything out. The water in the dirty tank is always satisfyingly (and gross) dark. Key Performance Notes Suction Power: Don't let the "Mini" tag fool you; the suction is strong enough to leave upholstery nearly dry to the touch. Spray Effectiveness: The built-in spray trigger is precise. It delivers a wide, even mist rather than a messy stream, which is crucial for saturating a stain without soaking the underlying foam padding. Self-Cleaning Feature: The HydroRinse tool is a lifesaver. It flushes the hose after use, preventing that "old damp carpet" smell from developing inside the machine. Portability: It’s small enough to store in a standard bathroom cabinet, making it much more accessible for "emergency" spills. Pros & Cons Pros: Extreme Portability: Easy to carry around the house or out to the driveway. Long Reach: The 12-foot power cord gives you plenty of room to move. Formula Efficiency: A little bit of the Oxy Spot & Stain formula goes a long way. Cons: Small Tanks: Because it’s a "Mini," you will be emptying the dirty tank frequently if you’re doing a whole couch. Loud: Like most portable extractors, it has a high-pitched motor whine.
