Aglaonema 'Apple Fantasy'

Aglaonema 'Apple Fantasy' is a colourful Chinese evergreen with oval leaves in layered green, cream and pink tones. The foliage opens from upright stems, with each leaf showing its own balance of pale speckling, soft green sections and pink midrib colour. As the crown fills, the plant develops into a compact, leafy clump with colour carried across the whole upper surface.

Its broad oval leaves have a smooth, slightly glossy surface and build a full crown even at a modest size. Pink petioles and central veins add colour at the crown, while the green tissue gives the leaves clear contrast in normal indoor light.

Aglaonema 'Apple Fantasy' standout traits

  • Compact upright Chinese evergreen with a dense leafy crown
  • Oval leaves patterned with green, cream and pale yellow-green sections
  • Pink midribs and petioles, with soft pink colouring near the midrib on some leaves
  • Slow to moderate indoor growth from short cane-like stems
  • Compact plant for warm rooms with filtered light and steady watering

Colour pattern, crown shape and tropical context

Aglaonema is a genus of tropical aroids native from northeastern India through Southeast Asia to New Guinea. Wild species grow in warm, humid forest habitats, often below taller vegetation where light is filtered. 'Apple Fantasy' is a cultivated foliage selection with soft pink, cream and green foliage.

The plant grows from short stems that carry leaves on fleshy petioles. New leaves emerge rolled, then expand into broad oval blades. The colouring can vary leaf to leaf: some leaves show more cream and pale green, while others carry stronger pink along the midrib and veins. Older leaves usually deepen slightly as they harden, while new leaves often look softer and brighter during expansion.

In a pot, Aglaonema 'Apple Fantasy' stays relatively compact. It gradually forms more shoots from the base, making the crown fuller over time. The root system prefers even moisture with oxygen in the mix. Keep it warm, use a loose substrate and water after the upper layer has dried slightly.

Aglaonema 'Apple Fantasy' care points

  • Light: Give bright filtered light or medium indirect light. Direct midday sun can mark the pale parts of the leaves, while very dark positions slow growth and reduce leaf size.
  • Watering: Water when the upper 2–4 cm of substrate feel dry. Keep the root ball lightly and evenly moist during active growth, then slightly drier in winter.
  • Substrate: Use an airy aroid-style mix with fine bark, coco coir or quality potting base, perlite or pumice, and a little composted material. The mix needs some moisture retention with quick drainage.
  • Drainage: Keep the plant in a pot with drainage holes and empty any standing water from the cover pot after watering.
  • Temperature: Keep warm, ideally around 18–28 °C. Protect from cold windowsills, cold draughts and temperatures below about 15 °C.
  • Humidity: Average indoor humidity is usually tolerated. Moderate humidity around 50–70% with gentle airflow reduces stuck or crinkled new leaves.
  • Feeding: Feed lightly during spring and summer with a balanced houseplant fertiliser at reduced strength. Reduce feeding when growth slows.
  • Pot choice: Use a pot only slightly larger than the root ball. A close pot size keeps drying more even through the pot.
  • Repotting: Repot when roots fill the pot or the substrate has compacted. Spring gives warmer conditions for lower repotting stress.
  • Pruning: Remove yellow or tired lower leaves at the base of the petiole. Older cane sections can be cut back if the plant becomes leggy, provided warmth and active growth are present.
  • Propagation: Divide basal shoots with roots, or root cane cuttings in warm, humid conditions. Keep cuttings lightly moist.

Leaf, stem and root warning signs

  • Yellow lower leaves with wet substrate: Check for overwatering, compact mix or a cold root zone. Let the pot dry slightly and improve drainage before watering again.
  • Brown leaf tips: Often linked to mineral build-up, irregular watering or dry warm air. Flush the pot occasionally and use fertiliser at reduced strength.
  • Pale dry patches: Usually sun scorch from direct light on soft or pale leaf areas. Move the plant back from harsh sun and keep light filtered.
  • Soft stems or sour-smelling soil: Check the roots for rot. Remove damaged roots and restart the plant in fresh airy substrate.
  • Fine speckling, sticky residue or cottony clusters: Inspect leaf undersides, petioles and new growth for spider mites, scale or mealybugs. Isolate and treat early.
  • Small new leaves: Usually caused by low light, depleted substrate, a tight root ball or cool temperatures. Adjust one factor at a time and wait for the next growth cycle.

Leaf colour can vary naturally between individual plants and between new and mature leaves. Steady warmth, filtered light and an airy, lightly moist root zone help new leaves firm as they harden.

Safety note for Aglaonema 'Apple Fantasy'

Aglaonema contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals and is toxic if ingested by pets or people. Chewing can cause mouth irritation, swelling, drooling, vomiting or difficulty swallowing. Keep the plant away from pets and children, and avoid contact with sap when pruning or propagating.

Dogs love them
Style: Ball, Size: Medium (Pack of 2)
Our dogs love these. What’s great is that you can add more plastic (like from water bottles) if the plastic starts to fall out from the center. If you have a chewer, though, these won’t last you long. Our shepherd mix loves these and then starts to pull the rubber apart the more she plays with it. Our other dogs treat it normally, though, and those ones last forever. They also get some decent height when bounced, and they make a unique whistling noise when thrown.

Our pup loves the cronch cronch!
Style: Ball, Size: Medium (Pack of 1)
I bought our 15 month old Coton several Chuck-It toys on an Amazon deal. He is incredibly playful, mischievous, and ball/toy obsessed, especially for anything that makes noise. He can also be very destructive so I love how durable most of their products are - they’re among our longest lasting toys and worth every penny. We have yet to take them to the dog park, but they’re a perfect size for sharing in play time. And they are keeping him busy at home - that’s a good thing. He loves investigating the crunchy-cronchy-crinkly sound which is a nice change from squeakers. It can withstand his destructive chewing well-being, gentle on his little teeth. I love that. Chuck-It is thinking outside the box with a variety of balls to keep dogs engaged! I do worry about the crinkle plastic inside because it is accessible because of the air holes and it feels a little sharp. So this will have to be an at home toy so we can monitor his play.

My dog loves it!
Style: Ball, Size: Medium (Pack of 1)
This crunch ball was a Christmas gift for my 65lbs fur baby. It’s now mid April and he still loves it. He loves running after it and chomping down on it. It is still in good shape despite all the chomping it’s gotta . I highly recommend. He goes back to this toy agin and again! Great buy.

Toughest ball we have found yet. Our doberman loves Chuckit! Balls especially the crunch one. He spreads all the balls and toys we have bought but these lasted the longest. The crunch and the glow in the dark are usually his pick but he has several different choices.
