Spring 2026 Shipping Schedule: 3/20/2026

Caladiums are one of the easiest, if not THE easiest, summer plants to grow! Their colorful foliage will brighten any shade garden from summer all the way to fall. Caladiums are indigenous to Brazil and neighboring areas of South and Central America where they grow in open areas of forests and along river banks. These tender tubers are commercially cultivated in the sub tropics of Florida and Brazil. Caladiums love and require warmth. There are two main types of caladiums - fancy leaf and strap leaf. Fancy leaf varieties sport large, heart-shaped or semi-heart-shaped leaves on longer stems. Strap leaf caladiums are shorter and have lance-shaped, narrow leaves with ruffled edges. Even though caladiums are grown for their colorful foliage, they will produce one or two arum-like white flower pods with green or pink spathes.

About this Variety

Caladium Fancy Leaf Mix is a best budget choice! Brilliant colored foliage in combinations of red, pink, rose, white, chartreuse and green. Eye-catching color.

Growing Instructions

Plant in the spring after all danger of frost has passed. Caladiums thrive in a partial to full shade locations where they are sheltered from the wind. The ideal soil is rich and porous and drains well, yet still holds enough water for the roots. If your soil is heavy clay and drains slowly, or very sandy and does not hold water, add organic soil amendments like peat moss or ground bark. Spread a 3-4 inch layer of soil amendment if needed and incorporate into the soil to a depth of 10 inches. Plant tubers 2-3" deep and 4-6" apart. Cover with soil. When planting a large number of caladiums in one bed, excavate the entire area to the recommended depth, work fertilizer into the bottom of the trench, set out tubers and then cover all at once. Water thoroughly at planting. While actively growing, water frequently and thoroughly so that water will reach roots. Mulch to keep the soil cool and to prevent the soil from drying out. Apply fertilizer before and after growing. After frost has damaged the foliage, dig up tubers, dry, clean off foliage and store tubers in peat moss, dry sand or vermiculite at 60-65ºF during the winter. Replant in spring after all danger of frost has passed.

Care Tip

To encourage leaf production, remove small flower stems as they are produced. Caladiums are excellent for growing in pots and containers to add texture and color to summer shade gardens. Plant caladiums along with ferns, astilbe, bleeding heart, begonias or other shade loving plants with similar or contrasting colors for an amazing show.

Love it, but terrible smell at first
Color: Natural (Yellow-white Ivory), Size: 2' x 3' (Natural), Color: Natural (Yellow-white Ivory), Size: 2' x 3' (Natural)
Really soft & my dog loves it. I used it as a throw over my couch for decor. The smell when I took it out of the package was probably one of the worst smells I’ve ever smelled. Like old broccoli or something. I left it outside to air out all day and that was gone.

Not premium quality! I've seen actual authentic ones before.
Color: Natural (Yellow-white Ivory), Size: 2' x 3' (Natural), Color: Natural (Yellow-white Ivory), Size: 2' x 3' (Natural)
Despite all the positive reviews, I believe this product is subpar. There are genuine sheep skin Hydes but this product is NOT it. There is no leather embossing showing authenticity, and many signs of strong chemical treatment. Smell is lingering and I've aired them for over two days. Not very comfortable since the fur is very thick and coarse, you would expect it to be softer for the price as well. Not premium quality. I ordered this for my children to sleep on at long evening Church services but now I will look to more niche sellers for a higher quality product.

Soft and luxurious, high quality - but don't buy if you have cats
Color: Ivory White, Size: 2' x 6' (Sheepskin Shape)
I give the rug a five-star rating because it deserves it. I was really surprised at how good the rug is right out of the package (it was packaged very well too). Because this rug is relatively less expensive than many other listings of natural sheepskin rugs on Amazon and elsewhere, I wasn't expecting much. But it turned out to be thick, soft, fluffy, plush, and luxurious all over. Many years ago I have purchased another natural sheepskin rug from Amazon described to be of the same size as this one (I got the 2'*6' one), but this one is definitely much bigger in its actual size. It's hands-down a high-quality, high-value purchase if you want a nice natural sheepskin rug. I also love how beautiful the natural creamy white color is. Now, the story takes a turn. It does have a "natural and organic" smell as mentioned in many other reviews. The smell itself is not repulsive. I don't know how long it will take for it to air out (my last rug never really got rid of the smell, but it was not a big issue since I put it on the floor. I lost the rug in cross country moving.) But now I have a cat! My cat just couldn't resist tackling the rug the moment it was laid on the floor. She probably imagined herself to be a lion or a tiger who just caught some big prey. She couldn't stop kicking and biting the rug, trying to tear it apart. She came back to it a few times after breaks already. And this is day one. I am guessing this smell does stimulate some instinctive call from her genes. In a few short moments, she managed to tear off quite some fur from the edge of the rug... The rug still looks fine since I just received it today. I am not sure how long it will last with my cat though. Before ordering, I thought about this possibility and googled whether cats and sheepskin rugs can co-exist. I got many cute picture results showing angelic cats resting contently in the long and soft sheepskin fur, looking totally adorable and peaceful. Many articles say that natural rugs calm our fluffy friends down. Well, I told myself "perfect!" Win-win for me and my cat. Now, here we are, the beginning of my cat's conquest of an imaginary lamb (which was a real lamb.) I cannot even return it since it has already been damaged by my cat... In the worst case, this rug would become a really expensive cat entertainment piece that would eventually be destroyed....:((( I even started feeling guilty for buying animal-based products - but then comforted myself by remembering reading somewhere that cow and lamb leather goods come from animals that would be slaughtered for meat consumption anyways. My cat is already eating canned food containing Australian lamb, etc, etc. Really need to stop the thoughts. So this is my review. Beautiful rug of excellent quality and unbeatable value, unless you have a cat(s).
