Nymphaea Nouchali
Also known as: Blue Water-Lily, Star Lotus

Here is a beautiful perennial freshwater herbaceous plant. It can be found from the Indian subcontinent to Australia. It has been cultivated worldwide for medicinal, edible, and decorative purposes and both Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have named it the national flower. The perfumed flowers are typically a bluish-purple hue and its edges may appear a reddish color and create a special aquarium or ornamental pond plant. Innovative gardeners with small gardens and sunny courtyards can enjoy them too, as they can be successfully grown in a variety of water-filled pottery containers, wooden barrels, old kitchen sinks and water features.
This aquatic plant is bottom rooted and its roots and stems grow to the water’s surface. The plant’s green, round leaves sit partially above water and grows approximately 8 to 9 inches. The plant flowers above the water’s surface and sits on its lily pad. The flower produces between 13 and 15 angular petals and from above it looks like a beautiful star. It is difficult to collect the seed, because the seed pods burst without much warning and the seeds disperse and sink quite soon. A common practice is to tie a muslin bag around the ripening pod. In this way after it bursts, the seeds cannot float away.
They do not like to be in swiftly moving water or be exposed to a lot of wind. Hardiness zones 10-11, (1°C/35°F, 4°C/40°F) and will go dormant in winter.

Rhizomes, leaves and flowers are utilized for a long time in the traditional medicine for various pathologies. The rhizomes, rich in starch, are consumed broiled or roasted, the leaves and flowers as vegetables and fodder for the animals. It has been known to treat indigestion in Indian holistic medicine. Flowers are astringent, cardiotonic and refrigerant; alleviate of cough, bile, vomiting, giddiness, worms and skin burns. Recent use of this species has proven successful in extracting antihepatotoxic and antidiabetic properties.
The plant belongs to the Nymphaeaceae family.
Basic germinating instructions are supplied with each seed order.

Please note the difference:
The lotus is often confused with the water lilies (Nymphaea, sometimes called the "lotus"). In fact, several older systems call the lotus Nymphaea nelumbo or Nymphaea stellata. This is, however, evolutionarily incorrect, as the lotus and water-lilies are practically unrelated. Far from being in the same family, Nymphaea and Nelumbo are members of different orders (Nymphaeales and Proteales respectively).

Lotus form waxy green bowl like foliage (to 2’ across) that generally rise above the water, as with the flowers are born on stalks (peduncles) above the water. Lotus (Nelumbo) produce large marble sized seeds and have been found to remain viable for several centuries! Lilies (Nymphaea) on the other hand, its foliage tend to 'float' on the water surface and the leaves generally are flat. The seeds of Nymphaea are very small.

Choose from either 15, 500, or 2000 small seeds.

Excellent Hard Sci-Fi… Until the Politics Pull You Out
Format: Kindle
I was really excited to dive into Project Hail Mary. As a longtime Isaac Asimov fan, I’ve been craving fresh, modern hard science fiction that actually respects the science. This book delivered — at least for a while. The author injects real science into the story in a way that’s both fun and fantastic. You don’t need to be an engineer to follow it; a solid high-school education is plenty. The concepts stretch your imagination without ever feeling impossible, and for the first chunk of the book I was hooked. I genuinely thought I’d found a new favorite author. Then the jarring interruptions started. Out of nowhere you get yanked out of the immersive sci-fi world by modern political pandering that feels completely unnecessary. A random parenthetical about Columbus “discovering an already inhabited world” when comparing something to the New World. Casual pronoun lectures. Characters selected or described by race and identity in ways that scream “check the boxes.” These moments don’t serve the story — they feel injected. Once you notice the author’s leanings, it becomes hard to unsee. Each time it happens, the fantasy evaporates. It takes several chapters to sink back into the story… only for the next micro-lecture to pull you right back out. Overall, I loved the writing, the hard science, and the imagination. It’s some of the best sci-fi I’ve read in years. I just wish the author had trusted the story instead of sneaking in real-world politics. It’s like eating the best meal of your life… and then finding a hair or two in it. Strongly recommended for the sci-fi, with the above caveat.

A Good Intriguing Start
Format: Kindle
A very good read. I thought Hickman wrote the best version of Doom, but this story so far is exceeding my expectations. This is a well written Doom, intelligent, strategic, all the things you want a good villain to be. And that’s the thing, Doom hasn’t done anything one could call necessarily villainous yet, so at this point you’re kind of on his side. I’m curious to see if the writers can pull off a heel turn that doesn’t have him suddenly act out of character or do something incredibly stupid in order to show his villainy in the end.

I Expected More Character-wise
Format: Kindle
Ryan North's Fantastic Four series is a fantastic read, and the titular heroes are a well-written team. But, the characters featured in this series seem pretty shallow, if not stupid. I get that to move a series along you need the characters to exhibit recognizable surface-level traits and to get them into situations in rather short order, but asides from Doom's elaborate planning, the characters in this comic feel hollow to me. There are eight more issues to go, and I'm onboard for the conclusion, but I hope that this main series gets some personality on its own apart from needing the accompanying tie-in series to do that.
