It thrives in dry, rocky soils and sunny locations, often found in coastal sage scrub habitats. The plant typically grows 3 to 5 feet tall and wide, with silver-gray leaves covered in fine hairs that give them a soft, velvety texture. White sage is known for its strong, resinous fragrance, especially when the leaves are crushed. It produces tall flower spikes adorned with small, tubular white to pale lavender flowers that attract various pollinators, including bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. This plant holds significant cultural importance, particularly among Native American communities.

Growing Instructions:  

White sage thrives in full sun and well-drained, sandy soil. It prefers hot, dry conditions and is highly drought-tolerant. You can start white sage from seeds or cuttings. If using seeds, sow them in the spring after the last frost. Lightly press the seeds into the soil without covering them, as they need light to germinate. Water the plants sparingly. Overwatering can lead to root rot. Once established, white sage requires minimal watering. Prune the plant regularly to encourage bushier growth and remove any dead or damaged branches. This will help maintain its shape and health.
