The vigorous vines take over trellises to produce lots of big beans. These plants do well in various climates and soils, especially in hot weather. You can harvest them in spring or fall, and they have a unique nutty flavor that's great in soups. They're easy to remove from their shells and taste fantastic when cooked fresh. You can also preserve their flavor by canning or freezing them. If you let them mature on the vine, they can be used as dried beans. When dried, their color intensifies into a mix of dark red and white.

Germination Temperature: Optimum soil temperatures are 70-85ºF

Seed Sowing Depth: 1” deep

Sowing: Direct sowing is preferred after the last frost. In warmer climates can also direct sow at end of summer for a fall harvest.

Harvest: If you want to enjoy the beans when they are fresh, just wait until the pods fill out, but harvest before the pods dry out. Or, if you're planning to use them as dried beans, let the pods dry out and then remove the beans from their pods. Store away in a cool, dry, dark place for long term storage.
