  • Petioles: Reddish to bright crimson, creating contrast against the foliage

  • Indoor size: Can grow over 100 cm tall and wide with space and support

Hybrid Background of Philodendron erubescens 'Dark Lord'

Philodendron erubescens is native to Colombia, where it grows in humid lowland forests as a hemiepiphytic climber. This hybrid cultivar – 'Dark Lord' – has been selected for its intense pigmentation and faster growth. It adapts well to indoor conditions if given enough warmth, humidity, and light. Temperatures between 22 – 28 °C and bright, indirect light are ideal. While dramatic in appearance, it's surprisingly easy to manage, making it a collector's favourite.

Philodendron 'Dark Lord' is toxic if ingested – keep out of reach of pets and children.

Care Instructions for Philodendron 'Dark Lord'

  • Light: Bright, indirect light keeps foliage dark and vibrant; avoid direct sun
  • Watering: Water when top 3 – 4 cm of soil is dry; do not allow to sit in water
  • Humidity: Thrives in 60 – 80% humidity; tolerates lower but grows slower
  • Temperature: Keep between 20 – 28 °C; protect from drafts and dry heat
  • Soil: Chunky, well-draining aroid mix with bark, perlite, and compost
  • Repotting: Every 1 – 2 years or when roots outgrow the container
  • Fertilising: Feed monthly with a balanced houseplant fertiliser
  • Propagation: Via stem cuttings with at least one node and aerial root
  • Hydroponics: Can adapt to semi-hydro systems in controlled humidity
  • Pruning: Cut back leggy vines or lower leaves to maintain shape

Typical Issues with Philodendron 'Dark Lord'

  • Leaf fading: May occur in low light – move to brighter spot with indirect light
  • Yellowing leaves: Often caused by overwatering or poor drainage
  • Dry tips or edges: Usually a humidity issue – consider grouping with other plants
  • Thrips or spider mites: Can appear on new leaves – treat with neem or insecticidal soap
  • Fungus gnats: Let soil surface dry between watering and improve airflow

Additional Notes for Growing Philodendron 'Dark Lord'

This cultivar grows fast and confidently in the right conditions, especially when given vertical space to climb. To maintain compact internodes and the richest colour, grow 'Dark Lord' in a bright, filtered location with consistent warmth and moderate humidity. Its large leaves can benefit from occasional wiping to stay glossy and healthy. Mimicking rainforest-like light and airflow keeps it vigorous and visually intense year-round.

zelda‘s “indoor” ⚽️ ball!
Color: Squeaky Green, Size: Medium Size 2 (6")
zelda loves her soccer ball - because of the fabric “tabs”, and the way she treats her toys, we keep it inside. she loves to place all of her toys and bones on our bed, after they’ve been cleaned. this ball is perfect and soft enough to throw it down our steps, where she will run down, retrieve it, and bring it back to the bed. it arrives deflated and comes with the pump and two needles - the pump is not the sturdiest and felt like it was not inflating, but after only having to reflate it once with a bit of air since receiving it ~5-6 months ago, it still holds up!

Small for a medium
Color: Red-Blue, Size: Medium Size 2 (6"), Color: Red-Blue, Size: Medium Size 2 (6")
I got medium.. and it does not look like a medium ball.. it’s rather small. It’s pretty sturdy and my dogs went crazy for it but it’s definitely not the size I thought it was going to be 😂 my dogs chewed one strap within 5 minutes of having it but they’re dogs and that’s what they do lol. I bought this to be an outside ball for them! It’s pretty light but that’s probably because it’s small. Not soft? But feels like a soccer ball. It also had no smell coming out of the box. Also comes with a pump and an extra thing to put in the ball to pump in case you lose one. I like these balls, I expect them to be chewed up because that’s what I bought them for! Fun for my dogs and they are! But the size… it is not medium and that’s the only reason for 3 stars 😂😂😂 Other then that I recommend, your dog will definitely love this! Inside or outside playing! Alone or with another dog!

Great toy for a GSD
Color: Blue Gray, Size: Extra Large Size 5 (9")
My GSD loves to grab the flaps and shake her head with the ball bouncing of the side of her head. This is her favorite toy. I thought she would puncture it but it has held up great since she likes to grab the flaps rather than biting the ball.

Great
Size: Medium, Number of Items: 1
I need something that was soft for my three year old and this ball is super great, it not only is the right size but it also fits in his mouth just right. Although he is a super aggressive chewer, the ball toy hasn't been totally destroyed yet and it is easy on his gums. The ball is so durable that got two of these toys just for fun.

The best!
UPDATE: 08/05/2025 - This is still one of my dog's 2 fav training/play toys. A couple of notes: 1. This is not a chew toy. If your pup is chewing up the rope, that's on you. That being said, you can get 100' of the poly cord rope at Home Depot for like $4.98. You can make nearly 100 ropes out of 100'. How hard is it to replace the rope????? 2. My pup is a now 15 month old Malinois. His original balls, purchase in September 2024 are still in everyday, multiple times per day, play. I did get careless and leave one where he got it and chew the rope. Easily replaced. Nothing to fret over. Yes, that was on me! 3.The foam ball is virtually indestructible! Replace the rope! 4. I noticed the price for the yellow large went from $12 each to $24. THIS will cause me to go elsewhere if they doubled in price. I LOVE these balls but not that much. I noticed they have a new yellow ball that has a strap vs. a rope. I might try that if I need one, but I have 6 of these balls, 2 never used yet, 2 that are virtually new looking, and 2 that have been in play since september 2024. I don't think I'll be buying more any time soon, but if I do need more, I hope they haven't gone up to $24 each. One of my top, go-to training tools. Quality is great other than the shrink wrap around the string joint. It's junk but not essential. Great tug and fetch toy. Essential to teaching a good "out" command (2 are recommended for this).
