The variegation that remains on mature foliage settles into cream, pale yellow, and soft pink overlaid across the green, sometimes marbled, sometimes splitting into bold sectoral patches. Because this is a non-tissue-cultured specimen, the new growth comes through with an intensity of color that the TC versions simply do not produce.

The growth habit is what sets Red Congo apart from most Philodendrons in cultivation. It does not climb. The plant stays compact and upright with thick red petioles and a sturdy, self-supporting structure, which makes it read more like a sculptural specimen than a vining aroid.
