Hoya australis, commonly known as Waxvine, Porcelain Flower, and Honey Plant, is a classic, easygoing vining houseplant loved for its thick, glossy green leaves and clusters of sweetly fragrant, star-shaped blooms. Native to Australia and parts of the South Pacific, this vigorous climber naturally grows along rainforest edges and rocky coastal regions, making it both adaptable and rewarding indoors.

Train it up a trellis or let it trail from a shelf or hanging basket—Hoya australis ‘Waxvine’ brings a lush, tropical look with minimal fuss, making it a great pick for beginners and seasoned Hoya collectors alike.

Why You’ll Love Hoya australis

  • Fragrant Blooms: Produces clusters (umbels) of porcelain-like, star-shaped flowers with a sweet scent.
  • Glossy, Waxy Foliage: Thick leaves stay attractive year-round and help the plant tolerate occasional missed waterings.
  • Easy & Adaptable: Does well in average indoor humidity and a range of bright-to-medium light conditions.
  • Trailing or Climbing Habit: Ideal for hanging baskets, shelves, trellises, or moss poles.
  • Pollinator Friendly (Outdoors): In its native habitat, flowers can attract pollinators—including butterflies.

Plant Profile

  • Botanical Name: Hoya australis
  • Common Names: Waxvine, Porcelain Flower, Honey Plant
  • Family: Apocynaceae
  • Native Range: Australia; parts of the South Pacific
  • Growth Habit: Trailing / climbing vine
  • Toxicity: Commonly listed as non-toxic, but as with any plant, discourage chewing and keep out of reach of pets/kids who like to nibble.

Care Guide

  • Light: Best in bright, indirect light. Can tolerate medium light, but brighter light improves growth and blooming. Avoid intense, direct midday sun.
  • Water: Let the top 1–2 inches of soil dry between waterings. Water thoroughly, then allow excess to drain. Overwatering is the fastest way to stress a Hoya.
  • Humidity: Average home humidity is typically fine. Higher humidity can support faster growth and easier blooming, but it adapts well.
  • Temperature: Prefers 60–85°F (16–29°C). Protect from cold drafts and sudden temperature drops.
  • Soil: Use a chunky, well-draining mix (e.g., potting mix amended with orchid bark and perlite/pumice) to keep roots airy.
  • Fertilizer: Feed monthly during spring/summer with a diluted balanced fertilizer. Reduce or pause feeding in fall/winter.
  • Support: Provide a trellis or hoop if you want upward growth; Hoyas often bloom more readily on mature vines.

Propagation

Propagation is simple with stem cuttings. Take a cutting with 2–3 nodes, remove the lowest leaves, and root in water, sphagnum, or a chunky Hoya mix. Keep warm with bright, indirect light for best results.

Note: Avoid removing old flower spurs (peduncles)—Hoyas often rebloom from the same spurs.

Air filter and cabin filters, cabin filter is a little harder to swap out
Style: 2017-2019 Rogue 2.0L Hybrid
Just as described air filter under hood is super easy to change out, didn’t take more than 10 minutes. The interior cabin filter for 2018 Nissan Rogue SL is not in the glovebox like YouTube said. It’s below on side of counsel, passenger side. Might have to squeeze it to get in place. Watch a few YouTube videos for little tricks to make it a little bit easier. It took the longest to swap out. half hour or more.

Best Blades hands down!
Size: 26" and 16", Style: Pack of 2, Size: 26" and 16", Style: Pack of 2
I purchased the Rain-X WeatherBeater 26” and 16” windshield wiper blade set to replace the factory blades on my vehicle, and installation was straightforward. The included adapters made it easy to get a secure fit, and I had both blades installed in just a few minutes. After several weeks of use, they’ve performed well in both light rain and heavier downpours. The blades make consistent contact across the windshield, leaving very few streaks and improving visibility significantly compared to my old worn-out wipers. They are also relatively quiet, with no noticeable chattering or skipping. One thing I appreciate is the value for the price. While these may not have all the features of premium beam-style blades, they provide reliable performance at a much more affordable cost. Durability remains to be seen over the long term, but so far they have held up well through changing weather conditions. Overall, if you’re looking for a dependable replacement wiper blade set that installs easily and performs as expected, the Rain-X WeatherBeater blades are a solid choice. I’d purchase them again.

Good, reliable wipers.
Size: 24", Style: Pack of 1
I replace my wipers annually, so I don't need to spend a bunch of money on the countless gimmicky wipers that are out there. You used to be able to find Rain-X wipers just about anywhere, but the marketing morons pushing the gimmicky crap have pushed these out of stores. I am please to have found them on Amazon. I am also pleased to find that they are on Subscribe & Save. Most of my vehicles use the same size wipers, so I can buy these throughout the year and replace them when they show up instead of trying to remember when their year is up. I have always liked the performance out of Rain-X wipers. I think they last all year, remaining flexible the whole time and stay silent. That flexibility make them very effective at wiping the windshield. The cost for the wipers was great when they were around $6, but the greedy corporations keep raising prices, so now it much more. I think the value is still there, but the design has not changed. Still good, reliable quality. The size is accurate. The installation is easy. There's instructions if you need them that are easy to follow.

Yes good choice
Size: 22", Style: Pack of 2
Perfect fit and they work great! It's been over a month using these and I would consider purchasing again. The wiper blades on previously looked a little bit more sharp but these outperform them by a long shot.
