Introduction

Description

Do you love the Wine & Roses Weigela but need a smaller variety? The Fine Wine Dwarf Weigela is perfect for smaller areas and also in containers. It's a great flowering shrub for mixed planting borders and foundation plantings.

The Fine Wine Dwarf Weigela produces dark pink, lush flowers throughout the spring into summer. The dark green to purple foliage really make the flowers stand out. This Weigela is deer resistant, attracts butterflies, and provides you with season long color.

How To Care

Spring or fall are ideal times to plant your Fine Wine Dwarf Weigela. However, as long as you avoid extreme temperature you can plant almost anytime of the year.

The Fine Wine Weigela thrives in full to part sun and moist, well-drained soil. Water deeply when planting and 2 times per week for the first 3 months while your plant is establishing. Once established, weigelas are drought tolerant. However, they will perform best if you keep your weigela watered once weekly when there is no rain in spring and summer.

Add 2-3 inches of mulch to prevent weeds and protect your plant's roots in extreme temperatures. Fertilize with a slow release fertilizer in spring after the chance of frost has passed. This dwarf variety isn't likely to need pruning. However, if you would like to prune your Fine Wine Weigela, prune in late winter.

The best way to prevent disease and pests is by providing the appropriate care for your plants. Proper location choice, watering, and fertilization are the keys to your success. Scale and mealy bugs are insects that can be treated naturally with neem oil, or insecticidal soap.

For severe infections you can use pesticides like carbaryl, also known as Sevin. Weigelas can, on occasion, encounter fungal issues. Generally, treating after infection isn't extremely effective, so if you have problems yearly treat in early spring with fungicides to prevent infection. Neem Oil is an organic method of treating and preventing some fungal diseases and pests. It can be effective, but the entire plant must be coated in order for this method to be effective.

Landscape Ideas

Plant this dwarf weigela with a variety companion shrubs for a nice pop in color

Its a great flowering shrub for around your home. It will reach heights of 2-3 feet tall and about 2-3 feet wide. Plant in clusters or just as an accent shrub. Prune after flowering and supply a high quality slow release fertilizer starting in spring.

If you have some nice planters around your patio, try adding Fine Wine Dwarf Weigela. They are sure to bring your outdoor living area to life! Our Summer Wine Ninebark is also a great choice.

Dog & I Disagree/ Aggressive Chewers Short-Term Toy
Color: Red, Size: Medium
This is day two, and, My dog LOVED this toy! He loved the squeaking aspect, chewing the center squeaky area so he could squeak it himself (adorable!). He also loved playing fetch with it, but he loves fetch, but this was fun for him as it wasn't a ball. The chewing enjoyment is where it was at for him as he Loves to chew, and it was a nice weight that he could really carry around and have fun. I did love this toy, as it was cute, and he was having such a great time with it! Until his teeth kept getting stuck in the rubber around the center squeaker area when getting it to squeak by himself. That was almost it, but he LOVES this toy, so I gave it another chance. Then, one of his teeth got stuck in the center and his teeth became hooked on the top of the outer round and he couldn't get it out of his mouth. That was the End. Perhaps more size options, small, medium, and large, with safer spaces, at each size, between the squeaker area and the outer ring- so they can squeak it, yet avoid getting their teeth stuck and/or their mouths stuck open. I would say the durability is lacking, as, while similar, a Benebone it is not, though it gets sharp too-ouch! He had the outer rounds pretty tore up on the first day, and even more tore up today, so if you have a truly aggressive chewer, this is also a short term toy. This is a fun toy and many love it, though many more could love it with a few modifications. As it is, I did not find it a value for my money, even with as much fun as he had; at this time, the safety aspect and the ease with which he chewed it requires I look somewhere else. I hope this helps.

Plastic cut my dog
Color: Mixed, Size: Medium
If your pet chews a lot do not buy. My dog chewed the plastic and cut her nose when grabbing the toy because of how sharp it became.

Great for aggressive chewers
Color: Mixed, Size: Medium
This toy held up well. My dog is a very aggressive chewer and will shred apart any toy she can. She was not able to tear up this one. I have not found many toys that she doesn't destroy

A winner with our GSD. He’s not a super aggressive chewer but it has still held up and is a favorite.
