The Lavender Mint Julep Plant is a refreshing and aromatic herb that combines the energizing scent of mint with fragrant leaves, vigorous growth, and ornamental appeal. It’s not only a delightful addition to gardens and patios but also an excellent choice for herbal teas, desserts, and refreshing summer drinks, especially the classic mint julep. Its lush green foliage and pleasant aroma make it both a culinary favorite and an attractive landscape plant.

Native to Europe and Asia, the Mint julep lavender plant forms dense, bushy clumps of vibrant green, lance-shaped leaves that release a sweet, cool fragrance when crushed.

The foliage has a subtle hint of lavender aroma, which gives the plant its name and distinguishes it from common spearmint or peppermint.

The leaves grow in opposite pairs along square stems. When grown in beds or containers, this herb can reach 24 inches tall and spread up to 3 feet wide, resulting in a lush carpet of greenery.

Like other mint hybrids, it does not grow true from seed but spreads rapidly through underground rhizomes.

During summer, Lavender Mint Julep produces delicate spikes of pale purple to lavender-pink flowers, which attract bees, butterflies, and other beneficial pollinators. Though the flowers are small, they add a subtle charm and accent to herb gardens and borders.

When it comes to Lavender mint julep plant care, it prefers moist, rich, and well-drained soil, opens in a new tab with a slightly acidic to neutral pH (6.0–7.0). Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Mint thrives in damp environments and should not be allowed to dry out completely. During hot summer months, water regularly, especially when growing in containers.

Outdoors, this mint enjoys full sun to partial shade, ideally 4–6 hours of sunlight per day. In very hot climates, light afternoon shade prevents the leaves from scorching. Indoors, place it near a bright east- or south-facing window where it receives filtered light.

Lavender Mint Julep grows best in temperatures between 55°F and 75°F and is hardy in USDA Zones 5–9.

In colder regions, it can be overwintered indoors or in greenhouses. Fertilize once a year during spring and summer with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer (10-10-10).

Regular pruning or pinching encourages bushier growth and prevents flowering, which can cause leaves to lose some of their flavor. Trim back stems by one-third in midsummer to promote regrowth and keep the plant compact.

One of the most unique aspects of this mint variety is its refreshing yet smooth aroma, which combines the cool sharpness of peppermint with the gentle sweetness of lavender. This makes it a popular choice not only for beverages and desserts but also for potpourri, essential oil distillation, and herbal infusions. The plant’s high essential oil content also helps repel pests naturally, making it both practical and pleasant to have in the garden.

Final Thoughts

Overall, the Lavender Mint Julep Plant is a delightful blend of fragrance, beauty, and functionality. Its refreshing scent, soft lavender undertone, and vigorous nature make it an ideal choice for herb gardens, patios, and kitchen windowsills. Easy to grow and maintain, this mint hybrid brings a touch of elegance and freshness to any space, whether cascading from containers, edging garden beds, or flavoring your favorite drinks and dishes. With just a little care and regular pruning, Lavender Mint Julep will reward you with lush, aromatic foliage all season long.

Review of Deacons for Defense
Format: Paperback
I found this book to be extremely informative about the Deacons. I was in Monroe ,LA in 1965 as a staff lawyer for the Lawyers Constitutional Defense Committee. We represented Deacons in various instances. This history filled in innumerable gaps in my knowledge of the Deacons. To the extent of my recollection the facts and analysis seemed accurate to me. This book is recommended for anyone with an interest in acquiring a full understanding of important civil rights organizations which contributed to the Movement in the '60's'

I love this book
Format: Paperback
I love this book. Some of the incidents took place in my home town of Jonesboro, LA. I knew many of the men (and women) who risked their lives to take a stand for racial equality. CORE's Jonesboro Freedom House (although it is vacant) still stands today, and its structure has not changed. This house, along with many of the pictures of individuals, are shown between pages 107 & 108 of the book. I shared this information with some of my students. They were quite surprised that our small town was a part of History!

Funny, Interesting, Informative!
Format: Paperback
I hiked the PCT in 2016 and I wish this had been available then. There are a lot of misconceptions about the desert section of the PCT (first 700ish miles) being flat, monotonous, and unpleasant. Even once you are out on the trail hiking through varied terrain, it is hard to shake off the "desert mentality" that comes from listening to those misconceptions. One of the reasons I love this book is because of how well the author paints an accurate picture of the beauty and constantly changing scenery the desert has to offer. All the information you would expect from a guide book is here, including mileage, water sources, elevation, etc. There are also a TON of photos that will make you question why you spend anytime indoors. I mean this literally. This book is worth buying for pictures of the Sierra sections alone. The damn near turn by turn navigation descriptions of each section are also a good reason for your purchase. The author is funny. I wanted to say that in a funny way but she's funny enough so if you want to chuckle, wait for the book. Her passion for the PCT seeps through her writing and it is impossible not to feel equally enthusiastic. On a multi-day (or multi-month) hike, that enthusiasm is almost as important as your next water source...except not..but ALMOST.

Anyone Can Do It!
Format: Paperback
My husband and I are hiking the PCT and this book has come in very helpful. We especially appreciate the areas we can park at the beginning and end of each section. It is making the trail very doable for two older people who could never make it otherwise. I tear out the section, make a copy and highlight some of the details for example a gate at 4.5 miles. It helps encourage us to continue when we know about how far we have left to go. Also the little map showing elevation gain and lost. The last 17 mile trip we did last week was predominantly up hill. Knowing that ahead of time prepares us mentally for a difficult hike. Our next section is 10 miles downhill so we will do that as a day hike and bring the dog. For anyone who thinks they can't do the PCT this is the perfect book. If I can do it Anyone Can Do It!

Best Section Books out there!
Format: Paperback
I plan to section hike the PCT in mostly small sections. Previous section books I'd found were called "PCT Section Hiking" but really were if you just wanted to get your feet on the PCT. THIS series of books is more than I could have hoped for and makes it so easy! I had previously spent hours and hours planning small sections, researching where to leave my car, which wilderness, what permits were needed, and on and on. This series (all different authors, but organized the same way, wonderful!) provides all the need to know info, plus very detailed commentary on each segment/leg. So grateful! So good!
