One of our newest RARE PLANTS and we are among a very few number of growers of this incredible herb! A tropical rhizomatous herbaceous perennial in the ginger family. The largest percentage of the world's commercial crop is grown in India.A member of the Ginger family, Turmeric has been a vital part of Ayurvedic medicine for centuries, regarded as an excellent tonic and blood purifier. Commonly referred to as 'The Golden Healer' Curcumin is the compound in Turmeric responsible for its incredible medicinal effects: potent antioxident, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti- microbial, protective effect on the liver, as well as its positive effect on hardening of the arteries. Many of its traditional medicinal uses are supported by scientific research, and Turmeric is gaining in popularity in the West as an important medicinal herb.
Turmeric is a great culinary herb as well. Most noted for its thick, branched rhizome, it makes a pungent spice, adding that rich golden color to curries. AKA as 'Indian Saffron' or 'Poor Man's Saffron', this wonderful herb is crucial to East Indian, Thai and Persian cooking. The dried powder is derived from the rhizome and again, vital in curries. Use it fresh as you would use ginger: stir fried or pickled! The plant leaves are sometimes used for wrapping and cooking food, and the lovely flowers can be eaten.
An important source of dye, it yields a bright yellow color that is used to color food, textiles, paints as well as ornamenting the human body!
The plant has an attractive growth habit, forming a foliage clump that reminds us of Canna. It can be grown indoors but note that plants grown in containers may require frequent repotting to avoid the rhizomes getting too big. Remember, it is the rhizome or root that is harvested and not the leaves. Additionally, remember that the rhizome will stain finger and cloth!

Daughter loved her gift…

The throw came in a box; it was very heavy. I did not open the box. I wrapped it instead. It was fluffy, and beautiful! My daughter loved it, it was one of the gifts she really wanted for Christmas. It is a great throw for a couch, and I’ve been told it’s warm, comfortable, and nicely made. The value for the price was also excellent. It’s beautiful; anyone would be happy to showcase this in their living room, and of course it’s highly functional - daughter says that it is so snuggly, warm, and the size is perfect!

Lovely Throw, But Falls Short of Luxurious
I really like this two-sided throw, with its plush fur-like material on one side and silky velveteen on the other. The texture is warm and silky, and the color complements my sofa beautifully. However, while it’s a nice blanket, it doesn’t quite measure up to the same size throw I bought a month ago from a local German “here today, gone tomorrow” store. That European snuggle bundle, priced at a single Benjamin, has my entire family stealing it from one another.
This throw could benefit from being a bit heavier, with a loftier fur side and thicker velvet to feel more luxurious—especially at twice the cost of the blanket we all love. ( black Friday/cyber Monday dropped it eight dollars) Without any discounts, the price feels inflated for what it is. It’s still a lovely addition to my home, but it falls short of five stars even at the discount price on the day of this review.
