Portulacaria afra is a resilient, fast-growing succulent shrub native to South Africa, often called “Elephant Bush” due to its role as a food source for elephants. It features small, round, glossy green leaves and reddish-brown stems that can become woody with age. This versatile plant is widely used in bonsai, xeriscaping, and indoor succulent collections. It is also known for its carbon-sequestering abilities, making it an eco-friendly addition to gardens.
Water Needs:
Low; water thoroughly when soil is dry. Drought-tolerant, but appreciates regular watering during active growth.
Light Requirement:
Bright indirect light to full sun. Tolerates direct sun well with gradual acclimation.
Maintenance:
