This coastal plant native to the Mediterranean, known by some as Horse Parsley or Black Lovage, is said to have a history reaching back to Alexander the Great. Ancient Romans were very fond of Alexanders, and ate the stems, leaves, roots, and flower buds as vegetables. The taste is said to be reminiscent of celery or parsley, and the black seeds it produces (origin of the common name ‘Black Lovage’) can be used as a pepper-like spice. Romans spread this plant throughout Europe, and it can still be found growing wild near medieval monasteries or by castle ruins in the UK. Through their growing season, they form large hedges through the waysides of Britain, and insects and bees flock to their great umbel flowers.

While it was cultivated as a common table vegetable long ago, it has since been replaced by celery. An 18th century pottage popular in Ireland was made of Alexanders, nettles, and watercress— a highly nutritious blend! This plant is said to have useful properties as a digestive aid, and seafarers once used it for scurvy and cleansing of the blood. Ancient Greek and Roman literature also described Smrynium olusatrum as diuretic and a laxative. According to Pliny the Elder, its name ‘Smyrnium’ refers to its myrrh-like fragrance; its latter name ‘olusatrum,’ meaning ‘black herb,’ points to the spicy black seeds Alexanders produces. Once a staple in Mediterranean and then British diets, Alexanders is now often referred to as the ‘lost’ or ‘forgotten’ vegetable. In planting seeds of this specie, one can expand their palette, and rediscover the relationship humankind once had with Smyrnium

Great little rug!
Color: Ivory White, Size: 2' x 3' (Sheepskin Shape), Color: Ivory White, Size: 2' x 3' (Sheepskin Shape)
This nice little sheepskin rug is the perfect finishing touch to my little reading nook. It’s soft and thick. Follow the enclosed instructions to fluff it up. I was going to order a second one but saw that the price jumped nearly $10 in a week. It’s nice but it’s not worth that amount. I’d buy it on sale though. Five stars.

Super thick and soft
Wanted something pretty to put under a lounge chair on our new vinyl flooring. The rug is very thick and soft underfoot. I love the "look" of the irregular shape in the room! I have luxury vinyl flooring and put a "pad" between the rug and the floor to protect the floor "just in case." Plus, the chair on the rug is heavy, especially with someone sitting in it. So, I took the extra precaution. I've had this rug for a few weeks and absolutely LOVE it!

Very happy
I was cautious about buying a fur product sight unseen. There can be so many variations in what you can get. Have to say I'm very happy with everything about this beautiful sheepskin. I've had different kinds of natural fur rugs , including a 90 pelt skunk skin rug! This sheepskin is well made and put together. It's an even soft white color, and only very faint fur/hide scent (to be expected) Gonna get a 2nd one and hope it's exactly the same.

Great Rug @ great price
I really wanted a large sheep skin rug that wasn't fake for my bedroom but didn't want to pay the high price. This was the best price i could find for the size i wanted. It worked out great! No weird smells, very fluffy, nice light color, and good size.
