Introducing the Dragon Tree, also known as Dracaena draco. The Greek word "drákaina," which means "female dragon," gave rise to the name "dracaena." This refers to the 'Draco' kind of brilliant red resin.

The name "dragon tree" is believed to have originated from the red sap that oozes from the trunk when cut, resembling a dragon's blood. This unique characteristic has contributed to its mythical and intriguing reputation.

Hailing from Madagascar, it is also known as the Madagascar dragon tree and goes by many other common names such as dragon blood tree, corn plant, ribbon plant, Asparagus Draco, and dragon's blood plant.

The dragon tree, a tall, cylindrical tree with sword-shaped leaves, grows tall in the landscape, whereas the houseplant is shorter but has identical leaves.

This dragon tree stands tall and can grow up to 15 feet tall in its natural habitat.

If grown indoors, it can grow up to 4 feet boasting a thick cylindrical trunk adorned with stunning rosettes. These rosettes are no ordinary ones either; they are crowned with magnificent sword-shaped leaves that will make you feel like you've stepped into a mythical kingdom.

The dragon plant flowers bloom from late winter to early spring, with white flowers, which are produced in clusters on the tips of its branches. The flowers emit a strong, sweet fragrance that attracts pollinators such as bees and butterflies. The blooming period is relatively short, lasting only a few weeks.

Interesting Facts

  1. The dragon tree has a thick, gnarled trunk that adds a touch of character and charm to its overall appearance.
  2. It has a long lifespan and can live for several decades, becoming a cherished part of your home.
  3. Its sap is a vibrant red color, giving it a dramatic and eye-catching appearance.
  4. The Dragon Tree is believed to bring good luck and positive energy to its surroundings, according to ancient folklore.

Propagation of the dragon tree can easily be done by stem cuttings. Simply take a cutting from the stem of the healthy plant and allow it to dry out before planting it in well-draining soil. Keep the cutting in a warm, humid environment to encourage root growth.

With its show-stopping presence, this dragon blood tree will undoubtedly add to the landscape of your lovely home. Plus, this slow-growing plant is perfect for those who want to add something truly special to their collection.

Watering Needs

The dragon blood tree is a succulent shrub that definitely stands out from the rest. Since it is a drought-tolerant plant, it does not need much water, but should not be overwatered or underwatered. But here's a fun fact - unlike most trees, dragon trees do not tolerate prolonged drought well.

In fact, during the scorching summer months, it might require watering once a week to keep those arms perky and looking their best. Keep the soil moist but not saturated.

If you ever notice your dragon blood plant gradually curling towards the center, don't freak out! That just means they're thirsty and in need of some water. So, make sure to water them thoroughly when you see this happen (but be careful not to let them stand in watery soil), or else risk facing root rot - yikes!

Stay on top of your watering game with this quirky dragon plant and watch as they continue to thrive and turn heads with their unique appearance.

Light Requirements

If growing indoors, place your Dracaena tree a few feet away from the south-facing window. If they don't receive enough light for a long period, their stems may grow leggy and become paler and their spines will shorten; so, make your house plant happy and give it plenty of light.

For outdoor cultivation, the dragon tree requires a lot of light and should be grown in either full sun or part shade. New plants can get burned in the full sun as they were probably grown in a greenhouse; therefore, dragon blood tree exposure to sunlight gradually increases. If the sun is too bright and is burning your plant's leaves, consider purchasing a sunshade or moving the plant to a more shaded location.

The dragon tree can also thrive in filtered or low-light conditions. It can also grow in areas that are partially shaded, but not in those that receive direct sunlight. The plant is vulnerable to exposure to the full sun.

Optimal Soil & Fertilizer Needs

Dracaena plant favors very airy, sandy soil that drains well. Planting them in ordinary soil will result in compacted roots, stunted growth, and most likely root rot. Instead, make or buy a well-draining regular potting soil, or ideally use Soil Cactus Mix Blend 1 Gal 4 Qtour specialized potting mix that contains over 5 natural substrates and mycorrhizae to promote the development of a strong root system that helps your blood tree to thrive.

When it comes to fertilizing your dragon blood trees, it only needs a tiny bit applied once a year in the spring growing season with a balanced liquid fertilizer that has lower doses of NPK (5-10-5). No harsh chemicals here, folks - just pure, natural goodness that lasts longer and encourages nutrient absorption, so your succulent stays happy as a clam.

So go ahead and give your Dragon's blood plant some love with a good natural fertilizer because when it comes to soil and fertilizers, through experience, we know what works best!

Hardiness Zones & More

When growing indoors, the Dragon Tree prefers average room temperatures ranging from 6°F to 75°F. It can tolerate slightly cooler temperatures, but it's best to avoid extreme temperature fluctuations. It is adaptable and can tolerate average indoor humidity levels. However, it appreciates a slightly higher humidity level, so misting the leaves occasionally or placing a humidifier nearby can be beneficial, especially during dry winter months.

For outdoor cultivation, the Dragon Tree is best suited for USDA hardiness zones 9 to 12, which are regions with mild winters and warm climates. The Dragon Tree can tolerate temperatures as low as 30°F for short periods but prefers temperatures above 50°F. It's important to protect it from frost and extreme temperature fluctuations, as they can damage the plant.

Final Thoughts

Overall, the Dragon Tree (Dracaena draco), is a stunning indoor plant with spiky foliage that adds a touch of exotic beauty to any space. It's known for its easy care, making it perfect for beginners. This plant thrives in bright, indirect light and can tolerate lower light conditions too. It likes average room temperatures and can handle normal indoor humidity levels. Just water it when the top inch of soil is dry, and mist the leaves occasionally for a little extra humidity.

We think you will love this dragon plant – order your very own Dracaena draco - Dragon blood tree for sale and start enjoying its beauty in no time!

Credit limit drop without cause, Synchrony?
Hey Synchrony, I've about had it with your services, I have 2 cards I use through you through Walgreens and Amazon. You lowered My credit limit on both cards causing me to go over on one because of stupid interest when I had 500 left and I had quit using the damn thing, and my Amazon store card I just Made a 200 Payment on! Lowering my limit and leaving me blind, You should call your customers leave a voicemail or text for heck sake ill read them, I don't read my emails usually for 2 or three weeks, well you did it again, but this time to card I just paid 200$ on too!, Your company sucks, I hate your practices, and I want you to know that. I also want Amazon to know that!! I spend a Boatload of money through amazon, as does my entire family, all ya gotta do is look!! Well I have never felt more unappreciated, insulted, like I stole something or like dirt ever ever in my adult life like you made me feel. Like i'm doing something wrong. Well guess what Synchrony Bank? I'm not doing anything wrong, at all!! I've never been late or missed a payment with my Amazon card or any card I have with you, Synchrony. Your Faceless Corp in its infinite wisdom, decided it would be a great idea to screw over an actual good customer just because some stupid algorithm reported my credit limit was too high and I was a risk, and lowered my limit from where it had been for the last 3 years and then sent a Quiet email about a letter that you put on my online account, please read it, just like that, no Urgent header nothing not that. I don't even read my email that often. I DO read texts or my regular mail, or listen to my phone messages!! I meant what I said NEVER LATE not even once, and NEVER MISSED a payment NOT once!!! The ONLY time I ever had to deal with any kind of problem was the one that lowering my limit on my Mastercard were the cause of, Synchrony!!! when you dropped my credit limit without me knowing and I went over my new dang limit because interest charges were coming in!!! I new where I was and had it handled and would have been able to ride the storm but no you had to mess with my account. Oh and I dont give a Crap if you quote me "we have the right to raise or lower you limit whenever we want", It's a BS excuse to screw over your customers, I know about the terms, however in all of my 54 years, you are the only credit card company that has ever lowered a limit one a CC I had EVER! and I've dealt with some Super sketchy Dirtbag Why did I ever agree to this card, charge me for everything Companies. Mostly when I was young but not even they cut my limit, without me missing payments or being late .....Now 30 years later much older and I thought wiser better CC much better 2500$ limit I've had for years and expect that limit to stay in place or like my Prime Store Card 2000$ limit to stay in place!! not dropped by 500$, for hells sake!!!! Well today I get the old hey your payment option for your try before you buy order needs addressed, and why do you think that was? Hmmm? Well, Ill tell you!! Because you Dropped my limit, by 500$ Now if Amazon dropped it then Ill chew them out too, but I don't think it was them, cuz you did this on my Walgreens card too!!! I just made a 200 payment on my Amazon card as well jerks! Not one of the several companies ive had previous Cards with NOT Cap one Cred one, citi, Community bank, american express, discover you name it, and Ive probably had it at one time or another dozens upon dozens over my adult life at this point anyway. Well, not even the Sleaziest Dirtyiest Gutter Scum CC company with fees for just looking at your card has ever lowered my credit limit not in 34 years Especially when I wasn't late or missing payments ever, always been on time and never missed a payment not 1 time, Except SYNCHRONY, and I think you suck for that!! The only reason I gave 3 stars is Amazon doesn't deserve a 1 star review because of your company! I love amazon, I love their products, their deals their delivery Amazon Prime, im ride or die with Amazon, my kids do all their shopping on amazon they even use it for groceries and stuff occasionally, but I really, really don't like how you treat customers Synchrony, especially customers, that pay on time and even early, oh and on auto pay for Christ sake!!! Now I know why some young dumb kids and people say screw it and stop paying CC bills, cuz the Corporations that pass em out like candy to kids, I might add, are SCUM bags, thats why!! It's all about the GREEN, more, and more and more money its never enough!! Well, when you dropped my credit limit without me knowing and I went over the limit of a different card I had with you, it was because of interest fees coming in. I expected and knew about these fees, however, I also thought I had 500 more than I had available on my card!! What a great day that was, let me tell ya!! I didn't even miss a payment I just didn't make a big enough one to cover the interest that came in, and I also never just pay the minimum payment with these cards either!! Your practices are shady, and the crap you pull against loyal customers that pay on time and even on Autopay are so Scummy!! You know when you dropped my credit limit without me knowing and I went over my limit because of interest, I even reached out to my current lawyer about Bankruptcy choices and stuff and if I should deal with you that way, but I got over bein mad! You know if I was late all the time and a crappy customer missing payments I wouldn't blame you for anything and at least Id know my cards were lowered and probably locked ...but I didn't want to do that, I wanted to try and slide right back into auto pay and get back on track and to deal with a recent Identity theft issue im having and not stop paying my bills OH..yeah, you smellin what i'm sellin? Well because of some terrible thing I must have done in a Past life, I guess. Several months ago now when I was dealing with the death of my mom very suddenly. I also noticed my credit score started dropping and I had no idea why, well turns out i'm MR popular. I had all sorts of crap in my name most of it local where I live and surrounding locally. 100 points in like 5 months!! I digress, Whatever! I don't care anymore, cancel my cards if you want, I'm done! This world is goin to hell in a hand basket, Civil War is almost immanent, a Faceless mob can destroy peoples lives just by canceling them on the internet at a whim. When its true I agree with the mob but when there isn't any proof and someone's life is upturned and then it turns out to be a total lie or they said something 12 years ago and its dug up? Good God, I probably said some haynous stuff when I was 25, but I can assure you when I was 37 I was not that person anymore, my views had changed on many things,,,,that stuff is crazy, and so am I for thinking I can do a damn thing,,,, my mom died 5 months ago, I was just recently laid off from my job I had for 17 years last month, and now you drop my limit again when i've been on time and auto paying and almost screw up my Amazon account!!so screw it!! Eat It Synchrony Bank,Eat It! Sorry about 3 Stars Amazon.

Great interactive toy
Size: One Size
My overall rating is a 5 stars because our dog absolutely loves the toy! It is a great tug toy and "launching" toy for fetch... Although she doesn't quite grasp the return part of fetching. She'd rather play "case me if you want it back!" I wish I had a better video but didn't think of making one until we were pretty much done playing. But you can see she's been playing hard up until this clip and is still wanting to play more... I'm the one exhausted. The rope part of this toy is what takes playing fetch to another level. Give it a good wind-up and let it fly! The weight of the ball carries it really far and very fast! More than I expected based on other toys one purchased. The first launch almost went over back wall of our yard! Skye didn't mind cause the rope made it easy for her to find it in the ivy. She loves throwing it around up in the air and flinging it around like cats throw their toys around. The ONLY issue is, of course is the durability. This toy is meant to be an interactive toy only. Once you're done playing, put it away if you want it to last. Especially if you have a dog that chews everything. It IS well made and of nice material, but no toy will survive her chewing skills. She'd have the rope chewed off in minutes. So it's up to the owner to keep this toy safe! If your dog isn't a chewer....I envy you and this toy will last a really long time! I would definitely recommend this toy for water or beach play as well. It's a big ball, but the rope and the groves in the ball make it very easy for her to grab. And if you don't want to use the rope to play, it fits into the groves around the ball and hooks into place. But honestly, we will never use that feature, the rope is the best part in my HER opinion! Definitely recommend and I'm going to buy more! I'm not thrilled with the price but everything is expensive these days, and if it's taken care of, it will last a long time.

Our Frenchie loves this toy
Size: One Size
Our Frenchie loves to pull and tug. She also loves to run after balls. The two in one makes it the perfect toy for her. We've been using it for over 8 months and while it does have some wear and tear... it's lasted a lot longer than her other today. She likes to grab the rope and run around the grass (sometimes getting too excited and tripping over the ball). As soon as we have to throw this one away... there's no doubt we are getting another one.

This is perfect for puppies. And small to medium dogs without strong biting jaws
Size: One Size
My border collie loved this as a puppy but wore out the rope. I got her another now that she is a year old and she loves it still but the rope showed wear almost immediately. She runs dragging it behind her and watching it bounce and she also swings it back and forth banging it on her head often but, it's so lightweight I don't worry that she's doing any harm to herself.

Love this toy
Size: One Size
I buy these all the time for my dog. They’re the easiest for me to throw and the dog loves them. The only reason they don’t get five stars as because the stitching comes out after a couple months. Therefore, I have to continuously buy them. Because of the fact that they are way easier to throw other balls and they’re easy to see also.
