Winter Triticale is a hybrid cereal grain derived from crossing wheat (Triticum) and rye (Secale). It combines the high yield and grain quality of wheat with the hardiness and stress tolerance of rye. It is widely used as a forage crop, cover crop, and wildlife food source, providing high nutritional value for deer, turkeys, and other wildlife species.

Key Characteristics of Winter Triticale

  • Planting Time:

    • Fall planting (late September to early November in most regions) to allow for establishment before winter dormancy.

  • Planting Depth:

    • 1 to 1.5 inches for optimal germination and establishment.

  • Planting Rates:

    • Broadcast: 90-120 lbs per acre.

    • Drilling: 60-90 lbs per acre.

  • Days to Maturity:

    • 90-120 days in spring, depending on variety and growing conditions.

  • Height at Maturity:

    • 3-5 feet tall, depending on variety and growing conditions.

  • Drought Tolerance:

    • Moderate to high; more drought-tolerant than wheat but less than rye.

  • Saturated Soil Tolerance:

    • Moderate; can tolerate short periods of wet soil but may suffer in prolonged waterlogged conditions.

  • Shade Tolerance:

    • Low; prefers full sun for optimal growth.

Fertilization Guidelines

  • Nitrogen (N):

    • Apply 50-100 lbs per acre at planting, with an additional 30-50 lbs per acre in early spring for forage or grain production.

  • Phosphorus (P) and Potassium (K):

    • Apply based on soil test recommendations. Typical rates range from 30-60 lbs per acre for P and K.

  • pH Range:

    • Prefers a soil pH of 5.5-7.5 for optimal growth.

Herbicide Use

  • Winter Triticale is relatively competitive against weeds, but herbicide use may be necessary in high-weed-pressure situations.

  • Pre-Emergent Herbicides:

    • Use products labeled for wheat or rye, such as pendimethalin, to control annual grasses and broadleaf weeds.

  • Post-Emergent Herbicides:

    • 2,4-D or dicamba can be used for broadleaf weed control. Always follow label instructions and ensure the herbicide is safe for triticale.

  • Caution: Avoid herbicides that may harm wildlife if the crop is intended as a food source.

Good Product
Scent: Unscented
Honestly one of the better bar soaps I’ve tried in a while. It’s priced a little higher than what you’d grab off a drugstore shelf, but you can tell pretty quickly that you’re getting something different it lasts longer, feels more substantial, and actually does something for your skin rather than just cleaning it. The lather is rich without feeling heavy, and after a few days of use you notice your skin staying softer without needing to reach for lotion right after. If you’re on the fence about upgrading your soap, this one’s worth trying.

I’ve never loved a bar of soap so much.
Scent: Unscented
For starters, I suffer with severe sensitive skin, Eczema (which also has a huge gut health component) - however I’ve been struggling pretty bad the last few months. In my search to find more natural and nontoxic options, I stumbled upon castile soap - I’ve been using it to wash my dishes, clothes, skin. Finding out that the alkalinity of the soap can destroy sensitive skin barriers (even with diluting). I think it is been the leading cause of my skin dryness. (Despite lathering up with things like organic Shea butter and castor oil). I was getting very frustrated and very stressed and I found this family owned company. I’ve always wanted to try more tallow products, and know how amazing honey and castor oil is for health and rejuvenation (inside and out). I figured what the heck this is a pretty decent price. When I say I do not want to stop using the bar so I mean it like it is now becoming a struggle for me to get out of the shower because I want to keep blathering up because it feels so good. As a bartender and someone who hates having dirty hands - I really hate washing my hands, despite how much I feel obligated to do it. I’m contemplating bringing a bar of soap With me wherever I go so that I have good soap to use 😆. I’m about to buy some from my mom and try other products. I will update if my skin issues have subsided (in a month or so I reckon). I am getting an Eczema patch on my stomach/torso area, my inner thigh to my knee, and back of legs as well. As well as for the last month despite how much dry skin I take off my face, And how much castor oil I rub in - even with a moist appearing face - the flaky skin pokes through. I immediately felt soft skin upon using this product on my face. Normally, I would test out a small area, but with only a few ingredients I was like screw it. I ran out of soap and it’s either that or using watered down castile. Please give this a try. I cannot attest for the scented versions. Also, I saw someone say that it burned their eyes? Castile burns my eyes - this, does not. (And I probably scrub my eyes harder than I should post makeup remover - which is a balm - and just on the eyes).

Great first impression!
Scent: Unscented
This soap was delivered last night, so I used it first thing this morning. So far, I am very satisfied. It has almost no odor—which I like. It created a good lather and left my face and body feeling soft and clean, but not dry. The natural ingredients mean it’s actually good for my skin! It seems to be a great value. The only improvement I can suggest is to make the edges a little softer (more rounded) because it’s quite square to be rubbing my underarms (and other delicate areas). If new details are warranted, I’ll edit this review
