stonecrop succulent plants Broadleaf Stonecrop – Sparrowhawk Native PlantsSedum spathulifolium Broadleaf stonecrop, like its cousin Oregon stonecrop, is a highly ornamental, evergreen groundcover. Its succulent leaves vary widely in color and form but are generally compact rosettes with a powdery bluish hue that transitions to reddish purple as the plant ages. In mid spring, prolific clusters of bright yellow flowers burst into bloom atop short, upright stems and are favored by native pollinators and beneficial insects.

Sedum spathulifolium

Broadleaf stonecrop, like its cousin Oregon stonecrop, is a highly ornamental, evergreen groundcover. Its succulent leaves vary widely in color and form but are generally compact rosettes with a powdery bluish hue that transitions to reddish-purple as the plant ages. In mid-spring, prolific clusters of bright yellow flowers burst into bloom atop short, upright stems and are favored by native pollinators and beneficial insects.

  • Plant type/canopy layer: evergreen, perennial, herbaceous plant
  • Size at maturity: 3-6" tall, spreads laterally by rhizomes, creating a groundcover
  • Light requirements: full to mostly sunny
  • Moisture requirements: moist to dry soil
  • Bloom time: April to August (May - June in the Portland Metro area)
  • Growth rate/ease: medium growth rate, easy to grow
  • Wildlife support: flowers attract and provide nectar to adult butterflies, bees and other insect pollinators; overall plant attracts and supports beneficial and pest eating insects and is a caterpillar host plant and larval food source for native butterflies and moths
  • Native habitat/range: locally common in rocky outcrops and ledges, gravelly places, and slopes, from sea level to 1500m, across the Pacific Northwest from the coast to the Cascades. Portland Plant List - yes.
  • Special features & uses: evergreen; groundcover; landscape uses include pollinator gardens, green roofs, rock gardens, rock walls and potted arrangements

Gardening with Broadleaf Stonecrop: This is an excellent choice for sunny pollinator gardens, containers, and rocky borders with moist to dry, well-drained soil. It’s slightly harder to establish, but the striking, unique color is worth accepting a little mortality. If you hope to achieve this consistent groundcover effect, a good strategy is to buy many, expecting that some will not make it, and space them every 6”-12” apart.

My dogs favorite!
My dogs love these! They will play all day if you'd let them, these balls are their favorites. I use the chuck-it handle and they get tons of exercise in the big yard!

The Dog LOVES IT!
I bought this for my ex-wife's Pitbull. He is an aggressive chewer and usually destroys any toy I buy him. But not this one! The ball is small enough and pliable that it gives when he chomps on it. He loves this ball and seems to be his favorite toy. Thank you for making a product that he likes and can't destroy!

My Golden Retriever’s favorite
We’ve owned lots of toys and balls. This specific version (in blue) has been her absolute favorite. She’s about 72lbs and chews on this thing regularly with no visible damage. We actually own about 6 of them because they have a tendency to go missing underneath furniture and in the yard. We have two of the orange colored ones but she doesn’t like those nearly as much which I assume is because the blue is easier to see in the grass. Other than that…They bounce really well and also whistle a little when you throw them hard enough. I hope they never stop making these.

doesn't whistle as loud as other chuckit balls I've seen, but a good ball.
makes some noise, but I've seen (and played with) others at the dog park that whistle much louder than the 1 I got. all Chuckit balls... so, just this one I'm betting. but it flys good and the dog loves to chase it. he chews it a fair bit as well and the ball has not taken much damage from him (lab mix) or others that have had a go at it. I'll likely buy another at some point ... just wish it was a little louder when flying.

Blue ball, my dog likes blue.
Just a ball right? Evidently not! My dog won’t chase an orange chuck it ball or the glow in the dark ball- only the blue one 🤷🏼‍♀️
