Anthurium regale x luxurians

Anthurium regale x luxurians is a cultivated foliage Anthurium hybrid with large, heart-shaped leaves, strong venation and a textured surface that becomes more defined as the plant matures. The cross brings together the large, elongated leaf form associated with Anthurium regale and the deeply textured, bullate character linked with Anthurium luxurians.

This rosette-forming aroid develops a compact to medium-sized crown in a pot. New leaves emerge soft, then gradually firm into darker, heavier blades with a more sculpted surface. Mature foliage can become wide and substantial, so the plant needs space around the crown for each new leaf to expand cleanly.

Anthurium regale x luxurians highlights

  • Large cordate leaves with a broad mature Anthurium outline
  • Marked venation that becomes clearer as each leaf hardens
  • Textured blade surface with influence from the luxurians parent line
  • Rosette-forming growth from a strong central crown
  • Warmth, airflow and even moisture while large leaves are expanding

Leaf shape, parentage and growth habit

Anthurium regale is an accepted species from north-eastern Peru, where it grows in wet tropical conditions. Anthurium luxurians is an accepted Colombian species from the same broad wet tropical biome. In cultivation, Anthurium regale x luxurians develops broadly heart-shaped leaves that gain more surface texture and depth as the plant matures.

Indoor inflorescences follow the typical Anthurium arrangement of a spathe and spadix, while leaf size, texture and venation define the plant’s mature appearance. Young specimens can look simpler at first; heavier texture and fuller blade shape usually become clearer with age and stable cultivation.

Care for Anthurium regale x luxurians

  • Light: Provide bright filtered light with a clear view of the sky. Shield the leaves from direct midday sun, which can mark the soft blade surface.
  • Watering: Keep the substrate lightly and evenly moist, then let the upper layer begin to dry before watering again. The root zone should stay airy and fresh.
  • Substrate: Use a chunky Anthurium mix with bark, coco chips, perlite or pumice and a moisture-retentive organic fraction. Roots need moisture and oxygen at the same time.
  • Humidity: Aim for moderate to high humidity, ideally above 60%, with steady airflow. Very dry air can make new leaves harder to expand evenly.
  • Temperature: Keep warm, stable conditions around 20–28 °C. Cold, wet substrate can damage roots quickly.
  • Feeding: Feed lightly during active growth with a diluted, complete fertiliser. Flush the substrate occasionally to limit salt build-up.
  • Potting: Choose a pot with excellent drainage and enough depth for a developing Anthurium root system. Repot when roots fill the container and the mix begins to break down.
  • Handling: Support heavy leaves gently during repotting. Fresh leaves bruise easily before they harden.

Growth checks for Anthurium regale x luxurians

  • Brown leaf edges: Usually linked to dry air, irregular watering or accumulated salts. Check humidity, watering pattern and substrate condition.
  • Soft yellowing leaves: Often points to a root zone staying too wet. Inspect drainage, root colour and substrate density.
  • Damaged new leaves: Low humidity, poor airflow or root stress can affect expansion. Keep conditions stable while the new leaf is still soft.
  • Pale, stretched growth: Light may be too weak. Move gradually into a brighter filtered position.

Growing notes

Anthurium regale x luxurians holds larger leaves when roots stay active and conditions remain even during each new flush. Keep the plant in a stable position while a new leaf is expanding, as soft Anthurium foliage responds quickly to changes in light, humidity and watering.

Anthurium regale x luxurians safety note

Anthurium regale x luxurians should be kept away from pets and children that may chew or ingest plant material. Like other Anthurium, it contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals that can irritate the mouth, tongue and digestive tract. Keep it away from pets and children, and wash hands after handling damaged leaves or roots.

Name origin and botanical context

Anthurium belongs to the Araceae family. The genus name draws on Greek words for “flower” and “tail”, pointing to the tail-like spadix. The parent name regale is linked with a royal or regal meaning, while luxurians refers to luxuriant growth. The hybrid name brings together the two parent species names.

Anthurium regale x luxurians matures into large hybrid leaves with strong veins, textured surface relief and substantial scale.

Reliable favorite kitchen tool
Color: Blue
This wonderful tool may be the most used tool in our kitchen. The hardest thing about it is to remember you can push the button and it runs- you don't have to hold it!. The charge on the rechargable battery last a long time- about 1 recharge per month- and we use it daily. We use the mixer attachment most. It works great for protein powders, collagen, iced tea or lemonade mix. It cleans easily and is waterproof- just make sure the cover is over the charging port. We have used it to froth milk, whip eggs, and as I said we use it daily to mix beverages. I worried about the price, but it is a great value because we bought it in December 2024 and it is more powerful and has already lasted longer than two whimpy ones.

This is by far the best frother I've used. Battery life is great. Its UX is excellent. Feels nice in the hand and has great power. Also like the on/off button as opposed to haveing to hold a switch down. Looking forward to getting their s3 scale.

Overall good frother
Color: Black
Bought the Maestri and the Zulay frother to test which one is better since both had good reviews. Returned the Zulay (see Zulay review) and kept the Maestri. Been using it for a few days now and works well. Mixes chai and hot chocolate well. It has one speed that is a good speed to mix, but not so fast that it causes the drink to spill over the top as long as the cup is filled to about 80% full. Because I tend to use the tall 20 oz Contigo autoseal cups, it could benefit from offering longer attachments to reach the bottom of the cup (note: that I did not find any company that offers longer attachment arms).

LOVE this frother and the creamy results!
Color: Black
I LOVE this gadget! And I'm not a gadget person. Since I got it a few days ago, I've switched from using my Nespresso coffee maker, which uses pods and which I really like, to using Starbucks instant coffee packets (cheaper and more environmentally friendly than pods). I put a packet of the coffee and two packets of Equal in a cup, add half and half, then use this frother to mix them. Within a few seconds -- no more than 5, if that -- I have a thick mound of creamy froth. Then I had the water to finish making the coffee. Fantastic. This thing is so easy and fun to use. This is not the cheapest frother available. I wanted a rechargeable unit that has sufficient power to make nice, creamy froth. Also, I didn't want to spend $10 and have the thing break and have to replace it. Reviews suggest the cheaper ones are fine if you don't regularly use a frother. I never used one before and didn't really think I would use it very often. But I like it so much, I've been using it twice a day. Also, I first saw one in use while traveling in India. Another guest at my small hotel had one, which she used to make a latte with rather than drink the rather tepid offering at the more tea-oriented hotel. That's when I decided to get one. I'll be taking it on future trips. Some come with travel containers; this one didn't. The only learning curve was making sure the cup or pitcher for the cream is deap enough not to splash out the cream. I think I'm actually using a little less cream than I used to because the volume increases so much. I use cold cream, not heated (I used to heat it in the microwave when I was using the NesPresso.) I find I like the initial contrast with the cold cream at the top, then I stir it down into the coffee. The Starbucks coffee is excellent. I've used it for iced lattes in the past, so I knew it was good. I can hardly wait for a heat wave to make them with this frother. I did try to beater attachment in eggs when I was making an omelet. Not worth the trouble -- first, the bowl I was using to beat the eggs was too shallow and egg got all over. Second, a fork works just as well. If I were whipping cream, I would definitely use it.
