Green Leaves with Crisp White Margins.
Albomarginata Hosta is a classic variegated shade perennial grown for its rippled green leaves edged in clean white margins. The foliage creates a bright, textured look in shaded beds where darker green plants can blend into the background. Its white-edged leaves make it especially useful for adding contrast along shaded paths, woodland borders, and foundation plantings.
A Dependable Hosta for Full Shade.
This hosta performs beautifully in full shade and can tolerate morning sun when the soil stays consistently moist. In hot or sunny conditions, the foliage color may fade or scorch, so afternoon shade is best. Use Albomarginata Hosta in areas where you want reliable foliage interest without relying on constant flowers.
Lavender-Purple Flowers Above the Foliage.
In spring to early summer, Albomarginata Hosta produces tall flower stalks topped with pale lavender to lavender-purple flowers. The blooms rise above the foliage and add a soft seasonal accent to the plant’s main foliage display. While this hosta is primarily grown for its green-and-white leaves, its flowers add extra height and movement to shaded beds.
Excellent for Borders, Groundcover, and Containers.
Albomarginata Hosta forms a tidy mound that works well as a groundcover-style perennial, edging plant, shade border filler, container plant, or woodland garden accent. Plant it in groups for a fuller, more finished look, or use it to brighten darker corners beneath trees and along shaded walkways. It pairs naturally with ferns, astilbe, heuchera, hellebores, brunnera, carex, Japanese forest grass, bleeding heart, and other shade-loving perennials.
Low Maintenance with Deer and Slug Awareness.
Albomarginata Hosta is easy to grow in the right site, but it should not be considered deer resistant. Deer commonly browse hostas, and this thinner-leaved hosta can also be more prone to slug damage than thicker, heavily textured varieties. Plant in moist, well-drained soil; keep the bed clean; water at the soil level when possible; and monitor for deer and slugs early in the season.
