Description

epimedium plant seeds Epimedium sempervirens Candy HeartsEpimedium sempervirens 'Candy Hearts' is a 2001 Darrell Probst introduction that forms a 10" tall x 2' wide, semi evergreen clump of dark green foliage that emerges rosy violet in late winter, morphs to green leaves with a violet edge, then finally changes to solid green. The clumps are topped, starting in early April (NC), with terminal clusters of light lavender flowers that just top the emerging foliage quite special in the early spring garden.

Maintenance:

Epimediums require very little maintenance. To keep them looking their best the old foliage needs to be removed. This is a tidiness issue and not a health of the plant issue. Their floral display is much more appealing if old foliage removal is completed before they bloom. Epimediums are either deciduous or evergreen. The foliage of deciduous types can be removed as soon as it becomes unsightly, which is usually after a frost in the fall kills the foliage. The foliage of evergreen ones can remain attractive all winter. Indeed this foliage is sometimes still attractive come spring. Yet it is still strongly advised that this now year-old foliage be removed before new growth is produced. The new growth, including flower stalks, is very fragile and this is why it is best to remove the previous year's foliage before new growth starts so as to prevent damage to the new growth. One might be tempted to leave last years foliage if it is still attractive at this time but be advised that it will die away come spring and by then if is a very tedious job to remove each leaf, leaf by leaf.

The removal of spent flower stalks can improve the appearance of the foliage display and prevent unwanted seedlings.

Epimedium do not need regular division. Indeed they might never really need division, but can be divided if one wants to have more. Clumping ones can be dug and divided into smaller clumps. Spreading types can be dug and individual rhizomes replanted to expand the display.

Growing Conditions:

Epimedium are shade plants and want average soil. They are more tolerant of dry shade than many other plants.

Natural Impact:

Most Epimedium are spring bloomers and as such add much to the spring display in shade gardens. A few Epimedium continue to bloom for an extended time. Epimedium foliage is most often an ornamental feature with its graceful form held aloft to wiry stalks. Some leaves have saw-toothed edges to the leaves. Spreading types make good small scale groundcovers.

Good Multi-use Panels
Color: Grey
These panels were easy to assemble and stand sturdy. i will use them to block the sun when I am outside doing yard work in the heat. I'm sure I will find other uses for them too.

We threw it away
Color: Grey
This thing cannot stand on its own, the side bars bend since it is not sturdy enough to handle the material screens. After assembly, I was so mad at it, the pleasure of crushing it was better than returning it. I tryed to think of other ways to use it, but could not… i kept the screens, they are the strongest part of this thing. Very disappointing

Works well
Color: Beige
Does the trick for privacy and some noise blockage. This takes two people to put together. The construction make it easy to assemble, but makes it just as easy to come apart on its own.

It works to divide a room, but it's not easy to use.
Color: Grey, Size: 6 Panel
This comes in multiple pieces and you have to build every single piece including the cloth that is between the two poles. There are plastic clips to hold the sections together, but they easily come off if you move the dividers the wrong way or try to reposition it. The only thing holding it up is rectangular shaped feet on the bottom and they are a pain when you hit it with your toes. It works if you need to divide a room, but its not pretty and there are far better options. It's cheaply made and has a habit of falling down if you are trying to use it in a straight or slightly angled line.
