Unique Anthurium that is one of the only ones in the genus to have shield-shaped, or "peltate," leaves

This means that the petiole is attached to the underside of the leaf, slightly above the center, instead of at the base. The name "peltigerum" means "bearing a shield" and refers to this peculiar leaf shape.

The leaves of Anthurium peltigerum also have a slight cup-shaped shape, especially prominent on young leaves, and are covered with prominent leaf veins. This vein structure, with both basal and parallel tertiary veins, gives the leaf an appearance reminiscent of a turtle shell, which has given the plant the nickname "turtle shell anthurium" in English-speaking countries.

The leaves of young plants are light green and over time turn a darker green shade with a velvety surface. Anthurium peltigerum is an impressively large plant with leaves that can reach up to 90 cm in length and 60 cm in width. The leaves are held up by strong stems that can grow up to 150 cm long.

Botanical description

In its natural environment, Anthurium peltigerum typically grows as an epiphyte at altitudes between 400 and 2100 meters above sea level, meaning it prefers slightly cooler temperatures than many other tropical plants. It is endemic to Ecuador and Colombia in South America.

Care

Thrives best in well-drained aroid soil and indirect light. Prefers high humidity and even room temperatures around 20-25 degrees. The soil should be kept slightly moist, without the plant standing in water. In winter, extra light should be provided using plant lighting to ensure it thrives.

The best for fetching enthusiasts
We have two lab mix dogs that love to play fetch but also have very strong jaws and sharp teeth. Tennis balls last about 10 seconds. I have used these for several years now and they are the best. They glow in the dark for night fetching, have two holes and are hollow so they whistle when you throw them. The dogs chew them like gum when not fetching and they hold up. They last about a year before starting to tear (this is with almost daily use). These balls are their favorites and get they upset if I use something else.

My dog's favorite
I have a 4 year old german shephard and this is her favorite ball. She often loses them and has to resort to a previous ball she used to play with, but when I line up several balls she chooses this one every time. When I tell her to search for her ball so we can go play she passes by all the other balls we have for her to look for this type. It has gotten so bad that I buy these in multiples because we play so much outside that she looses them and I almost have to order her to pick up an old ball when she can't find this one just so we can go outside. She loves to chew on this ball, I know that she could destroy it if she wanted to but she just likes to half bite on it. My dog loves this because the holes on each end make a whistle sound when you through it and she has become great at tracking it through the air via the whistle, I like it because it glows in the dark. So, in the early morning when she goes outside to the bathroom I charge the ball with a flashlight and I can watch her walk around the yard (we live out in the country and it is mostly dark all around us). Best ball for me and my dog.

Heavy chewer approved.
Style: Ball, Size: Medium (Pack of 1)
My pomsky will destroy a toy in minutes. Ropes, and the "indestructible" nylon type stuffs are no match for my furry shark. This ball has stood up to him like David. He loves the crunch and it is so much more tolerable than a squeaker. These will be a staple in his toy box - Chuckit toys are really the most durable dog toys I have found in three years.
