Description

Are you excited by the idea of harvesting your homegrown super fresh betle leaves from your own betel leaf plant? Or do you simply have a passion for cultivating exotic plants? Growing a betle leaf vine (botanical name: Piper Betle) can be a unique and rewarding experience, as you have the opportunity to nurture a rare tropical plant and witness its growth and development first-hand. And: a betel leaf plant is relatively easy to propagate through cuttings, so you might be able to share in the future!

The betel leaf plant was propagated from cuttings and cultivated in an indoor greenhouse under LED lights, thriving in its P7 pot. It's regularly fertilized to ensure optimal growth and health, guaranteeing customers a vibrant and robust plant. This meticulous care results in a healthy betel leaf plant that's ready to enhance any indoor space with its lush foliage, perfect for culinary and medicinal uses.

This betel leaf plant is variegated. It's both edible and ornamental: the heart shaped leaves are deep green with a creamy colored flush in the middle region of the leaf with red stems. This variety is easy to propagate via cuttings.

The Piper betle plant, also known as betel leaf, is revered across various countries for its versatile uses. Primarily, it's used to wrap areca nut and other ingredients into betel quids, popular in South and Southeast Asia for its stimulant properties. Additionally, betel leaves are used in traditional medicine for their digestive and respiratory benefits. Culturally, they hold significance in rituals and ceremonies, symbolizing hospitality and respect in many communities across Asia.

Shipped with confidence from our nursery in the Netherlands, centrally located in Europe, ensuring swift delivery. Each plant is securely packaged in a special plant blister within a sturdy cardboard box, guaranteeing protection during transit. This method ensures that your plants arrive fresh and in pristine condition, ready to thrive in their new environment upon arrival.

Properties and care

The betel leaf (Piper betle) plant grows very well in a pot in a temperate climate. Use a large pot with well-draining, rich soil and place it in partial shade. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged.

Fertilize monthly with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer.

Maintain high humidity (60-80%) and temperatures between 15-30°C, using a humidifier if necessary. With proper care, your potted betel leaf plant will thrive and flourish indoors.

Additional info

The betel leaf is known by various names across different regions: “पान” (Paan) in Hindi, “পান” (Paan) in Bengali, “வெற்றிலை” (Vetrilai) in Tamil, “తాంబూలం” (Tamboolam) in Telugu, “ವೀಲಿ” (Veelya) in Kannada, “വെറ്റില” (Vettila) in Malayalam, “ใบพลู” (Bai Plu) in Thai, and “Daun Sirih” in Indonesian and Malay. Viledele Gida, Tanbol, Burg-t-Tanbol, Maluu, Tråu, Plu, Tamalapaku, Bulung samat, Bulath, Papulu, Phoi paan, Vilya, Villayadel are words from other languages used to describe the betel leaf plant.

Propagation of the betel leaf plant is commonly done using stem cuttings:

  • Selection of Cuttings:
Choose healthy, disease-free vines and take cuttings from the middle section. Preferably a section where roots are already emerging from the nodes. Each cutting should be 3 to 4 nodes.
  • Preparation:
Remove lower leaves, leaving a few at the top to reduce water loss.
  • Planting:
Plant cuttings in well-drained, fertile soil rich in organic matter, burying at least two nodes underground.
  • Support and Care:
Use trellises or stakes for support as they start regrowing new leaves. Water regularly but avoid overwatering to prevent root rot. Partial shade is preferred in summer.

Alternatively, you can also propagate a branch while it’s still attached to the mother plant. Burry just one or 2 nodes in soil in a new pot and wait for new roots to grow. Cut the branch once roots have developed properly. This method is a bit more technical, but it will have a higher succes rate, and it will grow faster as the cutting can still feed from the mother plant.

Keeps lousy time
Color: Silver-Tone/Black
I purchased this watch off Amazon Warehouse well below MSRP out of curiosity to see what Timex is doing in 2024. The specs are good - bead blasted stainless case, solar movement with quick set date and hacking, sapphire crystal, screwdown crown and 100m water resistance. The movement is Japanese, case and bracelet are made in China, and the watch is assembled somewhere overseas. The good - the watch is lightweight and comfortable on the wrist. Price, even at full MSRP makes this an extremely good value for what you get. It is a good looking Flieger style watch. Once fully charged it is keeping good time. Case finish is well executed and without rough or sharp edges. The bad - the lume is weak. When blasted with UV, it fades quickly and within 5 minutes it’s gone. The bracelet is low end, but expected at this price point. I swapped it out with a nice leather strap from my collection with better quality spring bars and it makes the watch look and feel higher end. The Ugly - the second hand misses nearly all the chapter ring marks. The minute and hour hands are aligned, but that second hand seems to have a mind of its own. On my watch it lines up with chapter ring marks maybe 10% of the time, but it’s not consistent. Sum up, for a sub $200 watch the specs are great and it’s a good looking comfortable watch. Just keep your expectations aligned with what you are paying for. It compares favorably to Orients & Citizens at this price, and offers better value than comparable competitors now that Seiko has gone upmarket. I like this watch. Just don’t compare it to a Swiss watch costing several times its price. Update after a few months: I’m changing my rating to 3 stars. This watch keeps lousy time! It is loosing around 5 minutes per month. And it is fully charged. I have other Solar quartz watches from Citizen, Seiko and Vaer which maintain very good accuracy. But this Timex … defeats the purpose of a solar powered “grab and go” watch when you have to correct the time each occurrence you want to wear it.

Great Watch with Great Sapphire Crystal
Color: Olive/Gunmetal
Waited 2.5 years before reviewing. I love the gunmetal grey case, olive dial, and the exceptional sapphire crystal. The watch is still running great. During cold weather when wearing long sleeves, I make sure I charge the watch monthly by placing it under a table lamp for many hours because it died once due to no daylight charging. One problem is being able to see the minute markings. (The same watch with blue dial is much easier to read.) I also replaced the military-style band immediately with the excellent Archer 20mm Olive band (ARC-QRN-OLV20) and Archer 20mm Matte Gunmetal buckle ( ARC-BKL-GRYM20). I am only allowed to review once for this Timex model, so adding comments about the "Blue" version (TW2V03600JR). The blue version is the same watch but easier to view. It looks GREAT with the Archer 20mm Navy Blue band (ARC-QRN-NVY20).

I design flaw caused me to return it.
Color: Brown/Blue
Pros: - Perfect case size. - Sapphire crystal. - Solar powered quartz. - Large dial face - Minute and second hands reach to minute track for precise reading. - Great field watch design and proportions. - Effective lume on hands. Cons: - Lume on small triangular hour markers is useless, and fades quickly. - The hour numbers are not luminous. - The dull peach color chosen for the hour markers, numbers and hands in dim lighting is very dull and thus hard to read. - The dark blue color chosen for the dial is a dull hue that doesn’t really look blue, but just reduces the contrast between text and markers. - A black dial and bright white markers and numbers would make the watch much more legible/ readable, and would look much better aesthetically. It is a shame that these choices were made on an otherwise perfect design. - I was really excited that Timex finally seemed to get it when they came out with this series of models, but then they handicapped it with a dial that is only useable in bright light. What a shame. I am returning the watch.
