Its symmetrical, tiered branches grow in perfect horizontal layers from a straight central trunk, covered in soft, short needles that give it the unmistakable silhouette of a small, refined conifer. Despite looking like an outdoor pine tree it is a true tropical plant that thrives indoors year-round, and its graceful, sculptural form makes it one of the most distinctive large houseplants you can own.

Good for beginners? Yes. Norfolk Island Pine is adaptable and low-maintenance once established. It prefers bright light and consistent moisture but tolerates average home conditions well.

Safe for cats and dogs? Norfolk Island Pine is considered mildly toxic to pets if ingested. Keep out of reach of cats and dogs.

Light needs: Bright indirect light to some direct gentle sun produces the fullest, most symmetrical growth. It tolerates medium light but the branching becomes less dense. Avoid very low light which causes branch drop and sparse growth.

Care at a glance: Water when the top inch of soil is dry. Mist regularly or use a pebble tray to provide humidity. Feed monthly in spring and summer. Rotate the pot regularly to encourage even, symmetrical growth on all sides.

I previously owned a $300 knife set, and I can confidently say the Fikshot knives are just as sharp — maybe even sharper right out of the box.
