"আমাদের মতো পরিবারে নগদ অর্থ হাতে। থাকত কম, ছোটোদের হাতে পয়সা দেওয়ার চল তো একেবারেই ছিল না। তখন একটা সিঙাড়ার দাম ছিল দশ পয়সা। তা ইচ্ছা হলেই কেনার সাধ্য ছিল না আমাদের। আমরা সিঙাড়া ভাজার সেই আকুল করা গন্ধেই নিজেদের খুশি রাখতাম। আমাদের খেলার সাথী ও বন্ধুদের, যাদের বাড়ি পাড়ার একটু ভেতরের দিকে ছিল, তারা তত গন্ধ পেত না, আকুলতাও তাদের ছিল কম। আমাদের তিনতলা লাল রঙের ইট বের করা বাড়িটা ছিল দোকানের পাশেই, ফলে আমরা আমাদের বন্ধুদের থেকে একটু বেশি দুঃখী ছিলাম।
গৌর মিষ্টান্ন প্রতিষ্ঠান ছাড়াও সিঙাড়ায় দিকপাল ছিল ঘূর্ণির গোবর্ধন ময়রার দোকান। দোকানটা ছিল জেলা গ্রন্থাগারের পাশেই। সেখানকার সিঙাড়া থেকে রসগোল্লা, সবই ছিল বড়ো বড়ো যাকে বলে 'কিং-সাইজ'। শহরের রসনা- রসিকেরা দু-টাকা রিক্শ খরচ করে চার আনার সিঙাড়া খেতে যেতেন। ঐ দোকানের সিঙাড়ার কথা আমরা খুব শুনতাম-কিন্তু দশ পয়সার সিঙাড়া কেনার মুরোদ যাদের নেই তারা চার-আনা বা পঁচিশ পয়সার সিঙাড়া খাবে কী করে! অপর দিকে রাজবাড়ির কাছে আনন্দময়ীতলায় কালীমন্দিরে যাবার মোড়েই একটি ঘরোয়া মিষ্টির দোকানে পাওয়া যেত মিনি সিঙাড়া। যখন শহরে সিঙাড়ার দাম এক টাকা হয়ে গেছে, তখনও সেই দোকানে সিঙাড়ার দাম ছিল দশ পয়সাই। সিঙাড়া আর বড়ো বড়ো শ্বেত-শুভ্র নিমকিতে অনেক দোকানই ছিল চমকপ্রদ। কিন্তু এর সবই আমরা যাতায়াতের পথে চোখে দেখেছি- কিন্তু 'চেখে' দেখিনি। গন্ধ পেয়েছি, বাঁশি শুনেছি, কিন্তু 'মুখে' দিয়ে, 'জিভে' দিয়ে দেখিনি।"

I'm very picky about taste, especially the coffee syrup. I have tried several and most do not even taste like the "name" on the bottle. I decided to try this one and it is so good, it tastes like butterscotch. Mmmmm
