Dioscorea elephantipes, commonly known as the Elephant's Foot or Turtle Back Plant, is a fascinating caudiciform succulent native to South Africa. This slow-growing plant develops a distinctive, cracked caudex that resembles the rugged bark of an elephant’s foot, making it highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts.

Please note that these are priced by the size of the caudex. Depending on the time of the year, the growth of the vine will vary and may also be dormant.

Distinctive Features:

  • Large, woody caudex with a distinctive cracked surface resembling turtle shells.
  • Vining, deciduous growth habit with twining stems that emerge seasonally.
  • Heart-shaped, bright green leaves that appear during the growing season.
  • Winter-growing species, going dormant in the hotter months.
  • Can reach a caudex diameter of up to 60 cm with proper care over decades.
  • Produces small, inconspicuous yellow-green flowers when mature.

Care Tips:

  • Light: Prefers bright, indirect sunlight with some direct exposure; ideal for a sunny windowsill or greenhouse.
  • Water: Water sparingly during the active growth period (autumn to spring), allowing the soil to dry between waterings. Reduce watering significantly during dormancy.
  • Humidity: Tolerates low humidity levels, making it suitable for drier indoor conditions.
  • Media: Requires a well-draining, sandy or gritty mix; cactus or succulent soil with added perlite works well.
  • Temperature: Prefers temperatures between 10-25°C but can tolerate brief drops to 5°C. Protect from frost.
  • Fertiliser: Feed with a diluted cactus fertiliser during the active growing season every 4-6 weeks.
  • Repotting: Rarely needs repotting; only repot when the caudex outgrows its container.
  • Currently entering into summer dormancy. May not have active foliage. (1-11-25)

Perfect for liquid
This sponge is not made for liquid but I use it for my liquid foundation. The sponge won't last as long when it gets wet but it still lasts a LONG time! I put a drop of water on sponge first then dab a few times on my arm to dry with only a slight hint of moisture left (very dry feeling)... then add a drop of makeup (literally). The coverage is awesome and your makeup last 2 to 3x as long. Flawless finish. Love it! I recently updated my review...I still have same awesome sponge. Now I also mix a silicone air brush liquid (clear) to the liquid makeup it spreads farther and the finish is wonderful. Great product stays dry and drys very quick after use.

Love this product!
I’ve used this product for a long time. It’s nice and soft and works well on my skin. I wouldn’t use anything else.

Its OK, but not nearly as easy to use as videos and reviews make it seem.
I ordered this flocked sponge based on reviews and on watching JI videos of applying pure pressed powder with it. I tried it 'damp' and it was awful mess! I tried it dry, and no powder was transferring to my face at all. I'll stick with my ELF blurring brush to apply JI pressed foundation (which I love).

Jane Iredale sponge applicator
I’ve bought this for years and I find there the easiest and best way to even out your make up. I like them better than brushes.

Great to keep your dog entertained
Color: Blue
Great toy my 13 month old cane corso absolutely loved it and it kept her entertained forever except she has an extremely strong bite so she was figuring out a way to split it apart so I had to take it away -it’s extremely strong, but not strong enough for the bite of a cane corso but any other dog would love it. I just wish my dog didn’t have such a strong bite and would be able to keep enjoying it since it is a little expensive the only problem with it is that I thought the remote shuts it off, but then her bites were making it come back on, so I don’t know if it was my dog or the toy just doesn’t stay off until you turn it on.
