Anthurium marmoratum – Marble-Patterned Cardiolonchium from the Colombian-Ecuadorian Cloud Forests

Anthurium marmoratum Sodiro is a graceful member of section Cardiolonchium, recognized for its elongated, parchment-textured foliage and distinctive marbling. Petioles are robust, thickened at the base, sheathed, and feature a single shallow groove along the upper side. Leaf blades are elliptic-lanceolate, more than three times longer than wide, and deeply cordate at the base, with posterior lobes that curve backward and meet gently. The upper surface is patterned with irregular pale spotting, while the underside is green-glaucous, adding a refined two-tone contrast to the foliage display.

Marble Pattern and Structure That Set It Apart

  • Section Cardiolonchium: Noted for elongated, cordate leaves with thick textures suited to humid montane conditions.
  • Petioles: Sturdy, sheathed, and unisulcate adaxially, giving strong structural support.
  • Leaf Texture: Parchment-like feel that adds durability and definition.
  • Patterning: Upper surface marbled with lighter spots; green-glaucous beneath.
  • Posterior Lobes: Mildly convergent for a distinctive base shape and clear species ID marker.

Native Range and Growth Habit

Native to Colombia and Ecuador, Anthurium marmoratum inhabits humid cloud forests at mid- to high elevations, often above 1,000 m. It grows as a terrestrial species in rich, organic soils, occasionally epiphytic on mossy branches. In its natural habitat, it thrives with cool, stable temperatures, filtered light, and year-round moisture from mist and rainfall.

Care Essentials for Anthurium marmoratum

  • Light: Bright, indirect light enhances marbling and keeps blades proportionate.
  • Water: Maintain evenly moist but not saturated substrate; allow the surface to dry slightly before rewatering.
  • Humidity: Aim for 65 % or higher to prevent browning and maintain leaf texture.
  • Temperature: 18 – 25 °C is ideal; avoid prolonged drops below 15 °C.
  • Substrate: Airy aroid mix with organic and mineral fractions for drainage and aeration.
  • Feeding: Balanced liquid fertilizer at reduced strength during active growth.
  • Semi-hydro: Performs well in inert or mineral-based systems with stable moisture.

Keeping the Marble Pattern Sharp

  • Faded Patterning: Often linked to insufficient light; adjust positioning to brighter, indirect exposure.
  • Brown Margins: Common in low humidity or with inconsistent watering–stabilize conditions.
  • Stalled Growth: May indicate compacted substrate or nutrient depletion; refresh mix and adjust feeding.

Details Seasoned Aroid Growers Appreciate

Mature plants may produce inflorescences with a pale to green spathe and yellow-green spadix, occasionally with a faint maroon flush near the base. While seed propagation is possible, it is slow and less common in cultivation–division is the preferred method for maintaining desired traits. Compared to more temperamental Cardiolonchium species, Anthurium marmoratum is moderately forgiving if given stable humidity and consistent care.

Name Origins

The genus name Anthurium comes from the Greek anthos (“flower”) and oura (“tail”), referring to the spadix. The species epithet marmoratum means “marbled,” directly describing its patterned foliage.

Your Marmoratum Queries, Answered

  • Will the marble pattern shift as the plant matures? Yes–spotting often becomes more defined with age and stable conditions.
  • How large can blades get indoors? In optimal care, foliage can reach 60 – 70 cm in length.
  • Is this a slow-and-steady Anthurium or a quick grower? Moderate–it gains size steadily in warm, humid, and well-lit environments.
  • Is it safe around pets? No–like all Anthuriums, it contains insoluble calcium oxalates and should be kept out of reach.

Add Anthurium marmoratum to your collection for its elongated marble-patterned foliage, structural elegance, and cloud forest heritage–expertly cultivated, securely packed, and ready to thrive.

Love the material, very comfortable
I got the black in a size small, and the fit turned out perfect. It’s relaxed enough to actually move in comfortably, and looks really nice for a plain athletic shirt. The fabric is super soft right out of the package, and the tagless construction and flat seams mean there’s nothing scratchy or irritating even after wearing it for hours. The breathability and moisture wicking actually live up to its claims. It stays lightweight and cool in a way that cheaper workout tops just don’t, and the bamboo blend does seem to hold up surprisingly well on the odor resistance side of things too. The fabric is nice and stretchy while managing to not lose its shape as the day goes on, and so far the black has stayed vibrant through washing. My only slight hesitation is the price. While not bad by any means, $20 for a single athletic t-shirt is a little more than I’d typically spend. Having worn it a few times though, I think the quality ended up justifying it. Overall, if you’re looking for a workout top that actually delivers on its claims and holds up over time better than the cheaper versions, this one is worth the investment.

Great top for a heatwave
Color: Grey, Size: Large
We are in the midst of a heatwave in SoCal (95 degrees on St Patrick's Day, sheesh), and this tee really proved its claims today! I ordered it in gray, in anticipation of needing to deflect light, I just didn't think I'd need it this soon. At any rate, I love the coolmax plus bamboo plus vicose blend. I've learned to check the fabric of almost offering these days as somehow detestable synthetics (I won't say the P word, but it rhymes with Esther) because they trap heat, and the whole reason I'm buying summer clothing is to try to keep my body temperature on the cool side! At any rate, this lovely blend did help keep me cool and dry, and the curved hem is really flattering. You might not think that such a small detail would make much difference, but I find myself reaching for this for that reason alone! I ordered a Large, but likely shouldve gone with a Medium. It's a bit baggy but allows a lot of movement, so it's fine. I'm often between sizes and toss a coin pretty evenly split on which size I eventually settle on, so it literally is a real toss up. In the hope of helping someone else, I'm 5'5, about 145 lbs, 29 inch waist, and I wear a 34F/34DDD. I read another review that said that the shirt was too short, but I didn't find that to be true with mine. It fell to a flattering position, as in the photo, but maybe different colors have different sizing, as I've run into sometimes with major chains, and it's annoying. So take it with a grain of salt. I've already washed it and it doesn't shrink, nor did I expect it to.

Breathable and light
Color: White, Size: Small, Color: White, Size: Small
This shirt is truly better in person than in the stock photos. Its just a bit more of a textured athletic material in person that looks nicer on than a simple loose standard t shirt. The material does still sit semi loosely and only mildly hugs curves but its still figure complimenting and looks just a hair above only casual. Its very very breathable and lightweight, excellent for the gym or summer running etc but also serves as a phenomenal base layer for hiking and sports that carry into colder climates and seasons . Its well made and fots my size well so the size chart feels spot on. This shirt is really only losing points for me in the cost department because while its decent its nothing special. Its a good basic but its not something I couldnt find almost everywhere else.

Soft, slinky cooling tee without that synthetic feel
Color: Grey, Size: Medium, Color: Grey, Size: Medium
I ordered this bamboo viscose CoolMax t-shirt in gray, size medium because I wanted something lightweight and breathable for workouts and just being around the house when it is hot. The standout feature to me is the super soft and slinky feel it has without the overly cool wet feeling you get from other shirts made from synthetic “cooling fabric.” It feels smooth and comfortable against the skin while still doing a great job keeping me dry and not clingy. The fabric is lightweight with a nice stretch, and it moves easily without losing its shape. The fit is very flattering with a clean shoulder line and a curved hem that sits right at the hips, so it looks polished enough to wear out, not just for the gym. The seams are flat and smooth, and the tagless design makes it easy to wear all day without irritation. It also holds up well after washing with no shrinking or shape issues. For sizing reference, I am 5'6", 119 pounds, 34B, with a 28.5" waist, and the medium fits me exactly like the model in the main listing picture, exactly. That should really help with sizing decisions if your build is similar. Highly Recommended!

Lightweight and comfortable to wear.
Color: White, Size: Medium, Color: White, Size: Medium
I wanted something comfy, lightweight, breathable, durable, and cool to wear while working out. My old t-shirts leave a lot to be desired. This Bamboo Viscose Coolmax T-shirt meets all the above. The only downside for me is that I chose white, and the material is very thin and see-through. If you prefer to dress more modestly as I do, you’ll want to select a darker color. I planned to only wear it in the house or while sitting outside on the patio, so it’s okay. Comfort and breathability are important to me when the summer heat and humidity hit. The length and cut fit my physique and are comfortable to wear and move in. I got a medium, and it fits perfectly, which was really a nice surprise. Many tops tend to be too long or too tight in the hips. I’m 5’4” and 130 lbs. The top washes up nicely, but ended up with a few wrinkles. No big deal for me, though. Is it worth the price? I’d say it is based on the quality, fit, comfort, and breathability of the fabric. I’ve passed up buying similar tops when shopping because they were more expensive than this one. It’s a top to wear when working out, not for a night out on the town. It shouldn’t cost a fortune. At the time of this review, it’s on sale for $5.00 less, making it an even better bargain.
