Phoenix roebelenii typically grows to a height of 1.5–3 meters (5–10 feet), making it a suitable choice for smaller gardens or as an indoor plant. The palm features a slender, erect trunk that is covered with a fine network of old leaf bases. The crown is adorned with feathery, pinnate fronds that can reach lengths of up to 1.5 meters (5 feet). The fronds are a rich green color and provide a lush, tropical look. In late summer, the tree produces small, inconspicuous flowers that can develop into tiny, inedible dates.

Phoenix roebelenii thrives in bright, indirect light when grown indoors. It can also adapt to partial shade when grown outdoors but performs best with some direct sunlight. If grown indoors, placing the palm near a bright window is ideal.

Temperature

This palm is best suited for USDA hardiness zones 9b–11. It prefers warm temperatures and is sensitive to frost. It can tolerate temperatures as low as -5 °C (23 °F) but should be protected from cold drafts and freezing temperatures.

Soil

Phoenix roebelenii prefers well-draining soil, such as a sandy or loamy mix. It can tolerate a range of soil types but requires good drainage to prevent root rot. A pH range of 6.0 to 7.5 is ideal.

Water

Water the palm regularly to keep the soil evenly moist. Allow the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings. Avoid overwatering, which can lead to root rot. The palm is relatively drought-tolerant but benefits from consistent moisture, especially during the growing season.

Fun dog toy, but not for heavy chewers

The armadillo is cute. My pittie, Sasha, was very excited to see it. She just had TPLO surgery on her left knee (she tore her ACL just before the 4th of July), and I wanted to get her something she could play with while she convalesces, that isn't a ball—she really likes to run and jump and chase the ball, but with her knee out of commission, I didn't want her to get depressed being trapped in her crate while she heals—with this toy, she was able to keep playing and not over excert herself and get more hurt. It quickly became her favorite toy; she chews it relentlessly and gets made when I take it from her (see below). It makes a funky squeak that's not a high-pitched squeak, like I thought it would be; it's more a low-pitched, lowing sound like a baby calf. One thing I would like to point out to other purchasers about what the description says: "Durable and Long Lasting - Made from premium soft materials, our cute plush dog toys can withstand rough play for indoor or outdoor and last for years to come. The textured surface also helps massage and soothe your dog's gums during playtime" This is a little misleading. It's a good texture and Sasha loved to play with it, but it wasn't very durable. It might be when compared to other chew toys, but not for my baby. She tore the nose off within 20 minutes of getting it. The next morning, she ripped off an ear, and I had to pull the stuffing out of the face so she wouldn't eat it while chewing away. She doesn't seem to mind, but I sure wish it had held up a little more. All-in-all, this was a good toy for a few days.

I ordered this for my 2year old, 55lb Staffy Pitt mix. She’s usually pretty rough on toys. The toy is pretty adorable and looks and feels well made. It’s not constructed with a super durable material like some toys made for aggressive chewers are, but it’s also not marketed as a toy for aggressive chewers, so the material used is appropriate. The fabric feels dense and of a high quality, and the stitching looks to be of a high quality as well. I chose the 8-inch version in pink, and I’m happy with this size. It’s not too big, nor too small, and is easily portable. It arrived smashed up in a small bag, and I thought maybe it would be deformed when I took it out, but it wasn’t. It unfolded right away and then maintained its normal shape perfectly. Happy with this product, and after receiving it, I ended up ordering another, this time the 6-inch version, and while that is also a nice option, I like, and feel that the 8-inch version is a better deal. If this toy continues to last for a few more months, I would order another one, as my dog enjoys playing with it. It’s not her go to toy, but it is one of the few she keeps in playing rotation on a regular basis.
