Red Diamond Philodendron (Philodendron 'Red Diamond')

Red Diamond Philodendron is a bold, easy houseplant that brings rich, dramatic color and a clean, upright shape to indoor spaces. It is a great choice when you want the look of deep red new growth without the hassle of a vining plant, since it grows as a self-heading clump. With bright, indirect light and a steady watering routine, it stays full and glossy while developing layered tones from burgundy to deep green. If you want a statement plant that looks polished and modern year-round, Red Diamond Philodendron is a strong pick.

Distinctive Features

This philodendron is prized for thick, glossy leaves and its strong color progression, with new foliage emerging in deep red to burgundy tones before maturing to darker green. The plant forms a dense, upright rosette that holds a tidy silhouette, making it easy to style in a pot on the floor, a stand, or a tabletop. Sturdy stems and durable leaves help it maintain a refined look indoors, even in everyday home conditions. The combination of red new growth and darker mature leaves creates depth and contrast that reads bold without feeling busy.

Growing Conditions

  • Sun: Bright, indirect light is ideal for best color and growth, and it tolerates medium light with slower growth.
  • Soil: Airy, well-drained aroid mix that holds some moisture but never stays soggy.
  • Water: Water when the top 2 inches of soil dry, and do not let the pot sit in water.
  • Humidity: Average home humidity is fine, and moderate humidity supports best leaf quality.
  • Growth Habit: Self-heading, upright clump with thick stems and glossy foliage.

Ideal Uses

  • Focal Point: Use as a statement plant where the red new growth can add warmth and contrast to the room.
  • Corner Greenery: Place in a bright corner for a tropical look without trailing vines.
  • Office Plant: Keep near bright, indirect light for a polished plant that stays tidy and professional-looking.
  • Plant Groupings: Pair with lighter green or variegated plants to create layered color contrast.

Low Maintenance Care

  • Watering: Allow a partial dry-down between waterings, and reduce watering during slower winter growth.
  • Feeding: Feed monthly in spring and summer with a balanced houseplant fertilizer at a moderate strength.
  • Cleaning: Wipe leaves occasionally to remove dust and keep the glossy finish looking sharp.
  • Repotting: Repot when rootbound and choose a stable pot to support the plant as it matures.

Why Choose Red Diamond Philodendron?

  • Deep Red New Growth: Fresh foliage emerges in rich tones for a dramatic, layered look.
  • Tidy Upright Habit: Self-heading growth stays full and contained without support.
  • Easy Indoor Care: Thrives with bright, indirect light and a simple watering routine.
  • Modern Decor Impact: Glossy leaves and bold color elevate shelves, corners, and plant displays.

Red Diamond Philodendron is a great choice when you want strong color with an easy routine and a clean, structured silhouette. Give it bright, indirect light, an airy mix, and watering after partial dry-down, and it will stay lush and attractive. With simple care, it becomes a reliable focal plant that adds depth and warmth to your indoor space year-round.

Scholarly and Readable, Too
Format: Paperback
I read the first volume in this series (about the Great Depression), and now I'm in the midst of this one. Kennedy's very-lucid prose keeps the reader moving along, and of course, the sweep of the story he's telling is nearly-irresistible. But in lamer hands, the prose might well have bogged down in turgidity--not so in this case!

Good but not as good
Format: Kindle
Freedom From Fear #1 was one of the most interesting and informational books I've ever read. Part Two was interesting but I did not learn much more about the war than I had known before other than the fact that, while Japan lost the war, Anglo-Saxons are no longer in control in the Far East. I somewhat disagree with his ending ideas about the "good" war, that it wasn't so "good" after all in it's outcome. However, those who fought in it and their families would probably disagree.
