Monstera standleyana variegata

Monstera standleyana variegata is a slender climbing Monstera with narrow glossy leaves marked by irregular white to cream variegation. The vine grows with aerial roots and can be trained upward, creating a more vertical plant than broad-leaved Monsteras.

The narrow glossy leaves carry clean outlines and unpredictable pale markings. Variegation can appear as speckles, streaks, sectors, or broader patches, while the green sections contain the chlorophyll needed for new leaves.

Narrow variegated leaves of Monstera standleyana

  • Leaf shape: Long glossy blades give the plant a slim, vine-led look.
  • Variegation: Cream-white markings can appear as speckles, streaks, sectors, or patches.
  • Stem habit: Aerial roots develop along the climbing stem as it lengthens.
  • Training: A stake, pole, or small trellis keeps the vine tidy and visible.

Variegated growth on a slender vine

Monstera standleyana is an accepted species native from southeastern Nicaragua to northwestern Colombia. It grows as a climber in wet tropical forest, using aerial roots to anchor while the vine develops along vertical surfaces.

The variegated plant keeps this narrow-leaved climbing habit while adding pale markings across the blade. Use bright filtered light for the green parts and keep pale sections out of direct midday sun.

Care for Monstera standleyana variegata

  • Support: Train the vine on a slim pole, stake, or trellis to keep growth vertical.
  • Light: Give bright filtered light and protect pale leaf sections from direct midday sun.
  • Substrate: Use a loose aroid mix with bark, coco fibre, and mineral particles for root aeration.
  • Watering: Water when the upper substrate has partly dried, then let the pot drain fully.
  • Temperature: Keep warm at 18–27 °C and avoid cold, wet conditions around the roots.
  • Humidity: Moderate humidity is usually suitable; higher humidity helps new leaves open smoothly.
  • Propagation: Root stem cuttings with at least one healthy node and visible green tissue.
  • Fertilising: Use diluted feed when narrow leaves are opening; reduce or skip feeding if pale sectors begin browning after applications.
  • Repotting: Repot one size up when roots fill the pot, securing the slender vine before lifting it from the old container.

Brown patches, bare stems and pest checks

  • Brown pale areas: Check for direct sun, drought stress, or fertiliser buildup.
  • Long bare stems: Improve filtered light and prune above a node to encourage fuller growth.
  • Yellow leaves: Review root moisture and substrate density; the plant needs air as well as water.
  • Pest damage: Inspect narrow leaves, petiole bases, and new shoots for thrips, scale, or mealybugs.

Safe placement around pets and children

Monstera standleyana variegata contains calcium oxalate crystals and can irritate the mouth, throat, and digestive tract if chewed. Keep it away from pets and small children.

Standleyana botanical name

Monstera standleyana was published by G. S. Bunting in 1967 and belongs to the Araceae family. The species name honours botanist Paul C. Standley.

Monstera standleyana variegata brings narrow glossy leaves and irregular cream-white markings to a slender upward vine.

Life Changer!
Format: Paperback
Excerpt: “One of my first clients was a woman with ovarian cancer who came for a session with the hope that I could help her relax her body and prepare it for surgery that was scheduled in five days. She had been told to “get her affairs in order,” as her immune system was so weak that her chances of surviving the surgery were limited. Metastasis was also suspected. From looking at her energy, I was certain that the cancer had not metastasized. While her energy was dim and collapsed close to her body, the only place that looked like cancer to me was in her left ovary. In addition, the texture, vibration, and appearance of the energy coming up through her ovary were responsive to my work with her. I could see and feel them shift, and by the end of the session, the pain that had been with her for weeks was gone. I told her that her body was so responsive to what I had done that I wondered about her plan to have surgery. I was concerned that her immune system was indeed too weak, and I was confident that by working with her energy, not only would her immune system be strengthened, but the tumor’s growth could be reversed as well. While I carefully made my statements with the strong disclaimers required to avoid immediate arrest for practicing medicine without a license, she responded with horror to the implication that she cancel the surgery. I suggested that she at least delay the operation for two weeks. She scheduled a session with me for the next day and said she would discuss the surgery with her husband. That evening, I received a call from her husband. He was outraged and threatening. He called me a quack. He said I was putting his wife’s life in jeopardy by giving her false hope, and he told me I would never have another chance to confuse her like this. He made it clear that she would not be coming back. When I began to respond, he hung up. I called back a short while later. She answered. Talking in hushed tones, she was clearly uncomfortable speaking with me. I said, “Okay, don’t postpone the surgery, but please keep your appointment tomorrow. You don’t have to pay. You have nothing to lose. I believe in what I am saying. In fact, I want you to bring your husband in with you. Find a way!” She did not believe he would come in, but the next day, they both arrived for the appointment, with the offer to see her for free having quelled some of his suspicions that I was a charlatan out to make a buck. I had her lie down on the massage table. My hope was to find a way to give this traditional and skeptical man, so poignantly fierce in his protection of his wife, an experience of healing energy that his senses could not deny. I could see a dark dense energy at the site of his wife’s left ovary, and it felt like my hand was moving through a muddy swamp. I asked the husband to place his hand a few inches above the area and begin to circle it, using a motion that tends to draw energy out of the body. To his surprise, not only could he immediately feel that he was moving against something, within two minutes his hand was pulsing with pain. And to his utter amazement, his wife reported that her pain diminished as his increased. By the end of the session, she was again pain free, felt better, and looked better. I showed them both, through the use of energy testing, that we had been able to direct healing energies from her immune system to the area of her tumor. I taught him a set of procedures to use with her every day. They decided to temporarily postpone the surgery and to ask for further medical tests before rescheduling it. After about ten days of these daily treatments from him and three more sessions with me, she went through the additional testing. The tumor was gone...” I first came across Donna on youtube, and after watching her demos and hearing her story I had to pick up this book. And I'm sure glad I did! She is one of those rare angels that God truly spent a little more time on to heal and bring light to others. I feel such an affinity with everything she touches on especially when she talks about the wounded healer. From this excerpt and watching her, I can tell that Donna is one of those souls who is truly in touch with her spirit and lives securely through her high self. Thank you Ms. Eden for sharing your gift and grace with the World!

Dr. Woollacott’s bold and fascinating book breaks new ground ...
Format: Hardcover
Dr. Woollacott’s bold and fascinating book breaks new ground in the current debate about whether consciousness is created by the physical brain, or whether consciousness is “primary,” an elemental force that exists independently from the brain. What impressed me is that I could view her book through two very different perspectives: it’s at once both scholarly and a very enjoyable read. As I read her book, I found myself going back and forth between enjoying the stories and examples she provided, and the scientific evidence and analysis she offers. I was truly surprised to see that there are quite a few MD’s, psychologists, and neuroscientists doing rigorous, peer-reviewed research into these areas. Dr. Woollacott not only summarizes this research very clearly but provides many compelling case-studies quoted in this research that seem impossible to explain in terms of our current understanding of the brain. In addition to crafting a careful and thoughtful review of the research that supports the reality of NDEs, reincarnation, and energy healing, Dr. Woollacott also describes some of her own highly mystical experiences. This is perhaps one of the strongest elements in a book that has many compelling aspects to it. By telling her own story of being “awakened” by an Indian swami and of then having classic mystical experiences that most of us think could only have happened “way back when,” she adds her own impressive data point to the discussion about the nature of consciousness. I was fascinated to see how this experience was so powerful that it instantly turned her from an atheist into a person who knew beyond doubt that “something else” was going on. But then again, almost all the stories in this book were both dramatic and convincing. I wouldn’t be surprised if this becomes one of those “milestone” books. The research she surveys and the personal transformation she shares are dramatic enough and credible enough to provoke intense conversation and debate. It’s hard to ignore what you’ll read in this book (unless you’re a scientist who prefers belief to data). As they say, once you’ve seen this material, you can’t unsee it.

A Match Made in Heaven
Format: Hardcover
Marjorie Woollacott has provided the world with an incredible opportunity. The opportunity of merging two parallel universes; the scientific exploration of the brain, mind, consciousness, and awareness with the inner journey of one’s spiritual path of yoga and meditation. Marjorie has had her feet firmly walking the path of science and meditation for over 40 years. She gives her readers what they have been wanting for decades which is a readable resource to understand the complex scientific research of neuroscience and to understand the ancient texts of yoga and meditation. She eloquently explains to the readers how these two worlds were so far apart, and are now communicating and working together to solve the glorious mysteries of the mind, the brain and meditation. This is a match made in heaven. Deep exploration of the mental and spiritual bodies allow the readers to revel in these mysteries and begin to appreciate the unlimited vastness of a human birth. I loved this book and bought the Kindle version, but now realize this is a book I need to have in print so I can easily revisit sections which are worth future contemplation.

An award-winning book exploring the relationship of science and spirituality
Format: Hardcover
This highly engaging, award-winning book is the best introduction for non-specialists that I’ve come across that offers an intelligent alternative to the existential meaningless implicit in the materialist paradigm. Woollacott, a recently retired neuroscientist, takes readers on her quest to reconcile the objective world of her scientific study with the meditation experiences of her personal life. For most of her career, Woollacott kept her subjective experiences separated from scientific work. Having now retired from active scientific research, she now explains in this book how she came to construct a coherent worldview which synthesizes quantum physics, Hindu philosophy, and her own meditation practice. Having read numerous books in this genre, I most appreciated her intelligent exposition of scientific studies for the non-specialist, explaining how she came to favor panpsychism over materialism, all framed within her own life-long journey towards answering life’s biggest questions. I will gladly return to this book frequently as I try to help students consider an alternative to the materialist paradigm.
