If you've ever wished for a climbing rose with genuine fragrance, warm amber color, and the good manners to rebloom all season without deadheading, the Rise Up® Amberness Climbing Rose (Rosa x 'ChewAmberness') is exactly what you're looking for. Bred by renowned UK rose breeder Chris Warner for the Proven Winners® Rise Up series, this compact climber packs serious flower power into a surprisingly small footprint.

The double blooms open in a rich apricot-orange that softens to wavy amber petals with golden stamens at the center. That color is rare enough in any rose, let alone a climber. And the fragrance is the real deal: deep, intense, and genuinely rose-scented (not faint or "if you lean in close" territory).

Why You'll Love Rise Up® Amberness

  • Continuous color: Blooms from early summer through fall with reliable repeat flowering, no deadheading required
  • Intense true fragrance: Rich, genuine rose scent that carries in the garden and makes exceptional cut flowers
  • Rare amber color: Warm apricot-orange to amber tones you won't find in most climbing rose collections
  • Nearly thornless: Clean, manageable canes that are easy to train and comfortable to work around
  • Strong disease resistance: Bred for resistance to black spot and powdery mildew, reducing the need for chemical sprays
  • Compact and flexible: Train as a climber on a trellis or arbor, or let it grow as a full, rounded shrub

Growing Conditions

Rise Up® Amberness is hardy in USDA Zones 4 through 9, giving it a wide performance range across most of the country. Plant in full sun with at least 6 hours of direct light daily. South-facing or west-facing exposures are ideal for maximum bloom production.

This rose prefers moist, well-drained soil that's neutral to slightly acidic. During the first growing season, water deeply two to three times per week to establish a strong root system. Once established, weekly deep watering is typically sufficient. Good air circulation around the plant helps keep foliage dry and supports its natural disease resistance.

Size and Growth Habit

Rise Up® Amberness reaches 3 to 5 feet tall with a spread of 2 to 3 feet, growing at a moderate pace. That compact size makes it a true "mini climber" that fits where full-sized climbing roses simply can't. It develops a naturally rounded, upright form whether you train it vertically or allow it to grow as a freestanding shrub.

Landscape Uses and Design Ideas

This is a perfect rose for small gardens, courtyard spaces, and tight spots along fences or walls where a 15-foot rambler would overwhelm the area. Train it up a mailbox post, a small trellis, or a garden arbor for vertical color and fragrance right at nose level. Left unsupported, it forms a dense, rounded shrub that works well in mixed borders alongside perennials and ornamental grasses.

Planting and Care Tips

Dig a hole about twice the width of the container and just as deep. Position the graft union (the swollen knob near the base) at soil level in mild climates, or 1 to 2 inches below soil level in Zone 4 and 5 gardens for extra winter protection. Water deeply after planting and apply 2 to 3 inches of mulch, keeping it a few inches away from the base of the canes.

Feed with a balanced rose fertilizer in early spring when new growth appears, and again after the first flush of blooms. While this rose reblooms without deadheading, removing spent flowers can encourage even heavier repeat flushes. For climbing support, tie canes loosely to your structure with soft plant ties. Learn more about success with roses in our guides on planting roses and disease-resistant rose varieties.

Run small, size it up
Color: Mushroom, Size: 32W x 30L, Color: Mushroom, Size: 32W x 30L
They go small, Im 5'8", 165lbs, usually 32x30 fits just rigth in most brands Levis, Izod, whatever, can't even close the zipper on this one, my dingus prints in the front if I manage to close it, I will try a 34 or even 36, if you want one, size it up. Length is right. Anyway, the pant is good, sturdy looking material, is not soft but nothing uncomfortable probably gets right after break it in, reinforced stitches on pockets. I think they would work great for a technician, salesman or an engineer, those jobs where you have to look like a human being with a polo shirt but sometimes needs to do something without ripping your pants while crouching or for daily abuse of the regular Joe, will try another that fits

Good, but size up!
Color: Black, Size: 30W x 29L
These are exactly what I wanted, but as many have stated, you need to size up. I found that going up two sizes (from my usual 28 to a 30) made for a great fit. I love that they come in a 29 length. One anything point is they came with creases in them from being folded in the package for a length of time. I had to steam and press them before wearing. I’ll likely buy them in other colors.
