Turn any shaded corner of your yard into a mini rainforest with the Amazon Lily’s gleaming 3-4‑inch white blooms which release a jasmine‑sweet fragrance a few times each year, all from a single, easy‑care bulb that thrives where most flowers won’t. It thrives in the warm, humid understory of tropical rainforests which is essentially Houston with an irrigation system...I'm being cheeky, but it certainly feels that way in Houston at times. This bulb is ideal in the ground in zones 10 & 11; but in zones 4-9 it works great in pots where it can be outside during the summer (if desired) and protected indoors in the winter. It can also be houseplant in any zone as it provides year-round lush foliage and thrives in low to moderate indoor light. It can live for years in the same pot if it is well cared for.

What to expect: This plant is perfect for containers in all zones (necessary in zones 4- 9) or in the ground in zones 10 & 11. It prefers bright filtered light like under a tree canopy, a sunny porch, or as a houseplant. The foliage which resembles a peace-lily foliage grows to 2-3 feet tall, and then the pure, white, fragrant blooms will appear an additional 18-24" above that.

Planting Requirements - Sun and Water: The Eucharis thrives outdoors in filtered sun like under a tree canopy or on a sunny porch. Avoid harsh, direct afternoon sun in all zones as that can scorch the leaves. In zones 10 & 11, you can plant it directly in the ground for year-round enjoyment. Plant the bulb no more than 1" below the surface of the soil and plant the bulbs 6-8 inches apart. Plant in well-drained soil. Depending on rainfall and drainage, it is best to water deeply 1-2 times a week during active growing season.

Zones 4-9: You need to plant it in pots. You can leave it indoors year-round or leave it outside and just bring it in before the first freeze.

  • For a 6" pot, use 1 bulb; 8" pot, use 2-3 bulbs; and for a 10-12" pot, use 4-5 bulbs for a full look that also promotes better flowers because they bloom better when they are slightly crowded.
  • Use well-drained potting soil and plant just below the surface of the soil but no more than 1" below.
  • Keep the pots in bright, indirect light.
  • During active growth: water when the top 1-2 inches of soil feels dry; keep soil evenly moist but never soggy
  • During rest period: water lightly - just enough to prevent the soil from going bone dry
  • Bring indoors before first frost and do not place outdoors until after the last frost in spring

Blooms and Foliage: Each pure white flower has a lovely, pleasant sweet fragrance and will be 3-4 inches across. Each bloom is star-shaped with a prominent central cup (like a daffoidl) but with a more elegant, tropical look. There will typically be 3-6 blooms per each flower stem. The flower stalk will reach 18 - 24" above the foliage. The foliage has the lush tropical look to it with broad, deep green, glossy leaves that resemble peace lily leaves.

Zones 10 and 11: This fragrant plant can bloom 2-3 times with a little good care and slight dry rest in between the blooming periods. It normally blooms February/March, May/June, and again September/October. It is an evergreen. The flowers respond well to moisture changes.

Zones 4-9: The Eucharis will bloom in May/June, and if the growing conditions are ideal, it will bloom again in early September. If you want to encourage the Amazon Lily to bloom again, you will need to simulate a rest cycle indoors so follow the steps below.

How to Simulate a Rest Cycle Indoors (Dormancy Trigger for Reblooming)

Timing:

  • Begin the rest cycle after blooming finishes or in late fall (around October or November).

  • Rest for 6–8 weeks.

? Step-by-Step Guide:

1. Reduce Watering

  • Cut back water gradually over 1–2 weeks.

  • Let the top 2–3 inches of soil dry out before lightly watering again.

  • Do not allow the bulb to completely dry out, but keep it only slightly moist.

2. Stop Fertilizing

  • No fertilizer during the rest period.

  • Resume feeding only after new growth begins.

3. Move to a Cool, Dim Spot

  • Ideal temp: 55–65°F (13–18°C).

  • Place in low light or filtered shade indoors—no bright windows.

4. Leave the Leaves

  • Do not cut back the foliage. Eucharis is evergreen, and its leaves store energy for future blooms.

  • Allow leaves to yellow or slow down naturally if they choose.

5. Wait for Signs of Growth

  • After 6–8 weeks, you'll usually see new shoots or a flower stalk emerge from the center.

  • When you see this, move the plant back to a bright, warm spot and resume regular watering.

? After Resting:

  • Resume watering regularly (keep soil evenly moist)

  • Fertilize lightly every 2–3 weeks with a balanced houseplant fertilizer

  • Expect blooming within 4–6 weeks after the rest period ends

? Tip: Keeping your Eucharis slightly rootbound and in a smaller pot often encourages better blooming after rest.

Mulitplying: Though they like to be a little crowded (and 'rootbound') in pots, you will still want to repot them about every 3-4 years. They are slow-growing but very reliable!

Animals: Bees and butterflies may occasionally visit the Amazon Lily, but it does not have a lot of nectar. The flowers are fragrant and tubular which keep some pollinators away from it. Deer, squirrels, rabbits tend to avoid curcuma (though deer have been known to eat plastic flowers). If eaten in large quantities, it can cause vomiting or digestive issues in your pets.

Our pup loves the cronch cronch!
Style: Ball, Size: Medium (Pack of 1)
I bought our 15 month old Coton several Chuck-It toys on an Amazon deal. He is incredibly playful, mischievous, and ball/toy obsessed, especially for anything that makes noise. He can also be very destructive so I love how durable most of their products are - they’re among our longest lasting toys and worth every penny. We have yet to take them to the dog park, but they’re a perfect size for sharing in play time. And they are keeping him busy at home - that’s a good thing. He loves investigating the crunchy-cronchy-crinkly sound which is a nice change from squeakers. It can withstand his destructive chewing well-being, gentle on his little teeth. I love that. Chuck-It is thinking outside the box with a variety of balls to keep dogs engaged! I do worry about the crinkle plastic inside because it is accessible because of the air holes and it feels a little sharp. So this will have to be an at home toy so we can monitor his play.

My dog loves it!
Style: Ball, Size: Medium (Pack of 1)
This crunch ball was a Christmas gift for my 65lbs fur baby. It’s now mid April and he still loves it. He loves running after it and chomping down on it. It is still in good shape despite all the chomping it’s gotta . I highly recommend. He goes back to this toy agin and again! Great buy.

Toughest ball we have found yet. Our doberman loves Chuckit! Balls especially the crunch one. He spreads all the balls and toys we have bought but these lasted the longest. The crunch and the glow in the dark are usually his pick but he has several different choices.

Best system ever !!
My 12 yr. old Toy Poodle was already trained to a 'piddle pad' , so this system was easy to introduce. I simplly placed her piddle mat in the sturdy sided piddle box and she used it immediately. With a straight lower pad holder, she was peeing at the side and I was constantly having to clean the surrounding floor . Now, it is all contained and she is happy with her new 'piddle place'. And, I am very happy too !!
