Hoya Kerrii 'Sweetheart' Variegated Houseplant

The Hoya Kerrii, commonly known as the Sweetheart or Lucky-heart plant, is a distinctive houseplant featuring heart-shaped waxy leaves with variegated yellow splashes. This tropical succulent from Asia has become a popular choice for plant enthusiasts seeking a low-maintenance addition to their indoor garden.

Heart-Shaped Leaves with Variegated Pattern

Each leaf displays the characteristic heart shape that gives this Hoya its endearing common name. The variegated version features yellow coloring across the waxy green surface, creating a unique pattern on every leaf. The thick, succulent-like texture helps the plant retain moisture, making it exceptionally hardy and forgiving for beginners.

Wood-Like Vines and Slow Growth Pattern

Mature Hoya Kerrii plants develop woody vines that trail or climb, though the 3-inch and 4-inch offerings are single-leaf cuttings that remain as decorative hearts. These leaf cuttings are extremely slow growers but maintain their ornamental appeal for years with minimal care. While they may not develop vines, they serve as charming living decorations for desks, shelves, and windowsills.

Care Requirements for Wax Plants

Native to tropical Asian regions, the Hoya Kerrii thrives in warm indoor environments. The waxy coating on the leaves reduces water loss, allowing this plant to tolerate periods of neglect better than most houseplants. Water sparingly, allowing the soil to dry between waterings. Bright, indirect light encourages the best leaf coloration and maintains the variegated patterns.

Ideal Gift Plant and Ornamental Display

The Sweetheart Hoya functions more as a living ornament than a traditional houseplant, making it perfect for gift-giving occasions. The heart shape symbolizes affection and good fortune, while its hardy nature ensures the recipient can enjoy it without extensive plant care knowledge. Place it on office desks, bedside tables, or any small space that needs a touch of greenery.

Stretchy, but Smaller & Softer Than Expected; Berry Fragrance Dominates; May be Best 4 Puppies
I was directed to read guidelines that were on the internet, prior to use. I was not expecting that and that was a big turn-off. Basically, it's all about liability, this product has the possibility of being torn apart and I am basically warned that if a piece is chewed off, that's bigger than a grain of rice, to toss, this. I was repeatedly reminded, again and again, and again that pet safety was my responsibility. Yeah, I know that. All these suggestions and warnings should have been made clearer in the listing. Is this built to flex? Yes. Does it bend? Yes. Does it stretch? Yes. Is this rugged? That's open to debate, based on the users, for a puppy, to some degree, but their teeth are very sharp. Is this soft on teeth? I don't disagree. Does this have a durable design? Depends on the user. Floats in water? I do not doubt it. Does this have an enticing scent? For a human, yes, for a pet? Depends if your pet loves berries. This is no pigs ear/bone, so, chewing is not a natural draw that I saw, which I think may be better, because this is soft and easier to tear to pieces than expected. To motivate the first time, I found it best to initiate the tug of war, but this is smaller than I envisioned too, causing me to have to bend considerably to participate. A tennis ball in a tube sock is longer. A two-dog tug of war works best with this. Nevertheless, it's a better toy than teaching pooch to have a battle using clothing, avoiding future attractions to my socks. There is some flexibility to this. Durability is an issue. I think this would have been more interesting if it had been made out of rawhide. It does have a comfortable grip, for a human, but the toy pays a price for that with what I would consider fragility. The berry fragrance dominates, it's nice for a human, but sorry, it ain't no bacon aroma. It's like a thick heavy rubber hose. Value? In hindsight, I just do not see the value I was expecting. I mean really, a grain of rice warning not to use. Durability at issue in my eyes. Country of origin? Vietnam. Is this perfect? Not in my opinion. Rating? A strong three (3) stars at best in my eyes. This is not for a tough chewer. I have to constantly monitor its condition. It does succeed as a tug toy, but it has more limitations that I was expecting. I hope my thoughts added a bit of information.

Bully proof?!
Size: 5 in
We have the cutest little pit/lab mix who destroys stuffed toys in about two seconds flat. It’s always a HUNT to find toys he won’t instantly shred. This brand has some of the best! They were in FiveBelow for a while and it was the only brand that stood up to him initially. He finally got through the first only after MONTHS so we bought a few back ups and they’re still going strong months later! They’re also not super heavy so these end up being the toys we play fetch with most often! 100% will be buying more in this line in the future!

When this chew arrived, it immediately became a favorite. It seems sturdy and is soft enough to be dental friendly.
