Once the hen bloom with a lovely pink flower in summer, it will die, but the chicks will grow to quickly take her place, and the cycle begins anew. Native to central and southern Europe and the Mediterranean islands, they are traditionally grown on the roofs of houses with virtually no soil or care. Plant them in average to low fertility soil with good drainage in a full sun or morning sun/afternoon shade location. They grow most in spring and summer, spreading as they grow, so give them space when planting. Pair with other Sempervivum to create a mosaic effect. Deer and rabbits avoid these plants.
