Sempervivum heuffelii ‘Bronze Ingot’ is a drought-tolerant, cold-hardy succulent admired for its rich bronze to copper-toned foliage and architectural rosette form. Unlike many Sempervivum types, this cultivar does not spread rapidly by offsets, giving it a tidy, clump-forming habit that appeals to collectors and rock garden enthusiasts. Its intense coloration deepens in cool weather, making it especially popular for year-round visual interest.

Native to Eastern Europe, the Sempervivum ‘Bronze Ingot’ forms symmetrical, fleshy rosettes with thick, pointed leaves that display shades of bronze, copper, and deep green.

The leaves often develop darker margins when exposed to cooler temperatures or bright sunlight.

Unlike spreading “hens and chicks,” this cultivar grows as a solitary rosette, slowly increasing in size rather than producing runners.

At maturity, individual rosettes typically reach 6 inches wide. Over time, the plant may form a modest clump, but it remains compact and well-contained, making it ideal for containers, rock gardens, and alpine troughs.

In early to mid-summer, the Sempervivum ‘Bronze Ingot’ produces star-shaped flowers in shades of soft pink to reddish-purple. As with all Sempervivum, the flowering rosette is monocarpic and will die after blooming, though new growth may develop from the base or nearby crowns.

When it comes to care, this Sempervivum variety is highly drought-tolerant and prefers deep but infrequent watering, allowing the soil to dry completely between waterings. It requires gritty, well-drained succulent soil, such as a cactus or alpine mix.

Indoors, provide bright light and temperatures between 60–75°F.

Outdoors, it thrives in full sun to partial shade and is exceptionally cold-hardy in USDA zones 3–8.

Fertilizer is generally unnecessary, but light feeding with a diluted, balanced fertilizer in spring can support healthy growth.

The Bottom Line

Overall, the Sempervivum heuffelii 'Bronze Ingot' is an excellent choice for gardeners looking for a bold yet low-maintenance succulent. Its cold tolerance, minimal care needs, and sculptural appearance make it a standout addition to rock gardens, containers, and alpine collections.

Good quality, good buy.
Size: 300 Count (Pack of 1,8.375 Inch)
I liked these plates more than I thought I would. The plates hold up well under load and don’t soak through like regular less expensive plates. The size is right for most meals and still not too big for just dessert. They worked great in the microwave and were easy to separate from the stack. These came packed in a box with two stacks that were each wrapped in plastic to keep them clean in shipping and storage. I will buy these again.
