When To Plant Kashmiri Kesar Bulbs?

Saffron bulbs are typically planted in mid-September to mid-December. This timing is crucial to allow the bulbs to establish their roots before winter.

How To Grow Kashmiri Saffron Bulbs

Choose the Right Bulbs

  • Make sure you obtain high-quality Kashmiri saffron bulbs from a reputable source.

Select the Containers

  • Use pots or containers that are 12-22 cm deep in size. Ensure they have proper drainage holes at the bottom to prevent waterlogging.

Prepare the Soil
Saffron requires well-draining soil. You can amend your potting mix with organic matter (like compost) to improve soil quality. Fill the containers with this mix, leaving some space at the top.
Plant the Bulbs

  • Space the bulbs 10-15 cm apart and plant them about 5-10 cm deep. Ensure the pointed end faces upwards.

Watering

  • After planting, water the pots thoroughly to help the soil settle. Be careful not to overwater, as saffron bulbs don't like excessive moisture. Water only when the top inch of soil is dry.

Sunlight

  • Place the pots in a location that receives full sunlight, ideally at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight per day.

Mulching

  • Apply a thin layer of mulch to the top of the soil to conserve moisture and regulate soil temperature. It also helps suppress weeds.

Fertilization

  • Saffron doesn't require heavy fertilization. You can use a balanced, slow-release fertilizer sparingly during the growing season, but avoid over-fertilizing.

Winter Care

  • If you live in an area with cold winters, protect the pots by moving them to a sheltered location or insulating them to prevent freezing. Saffron bulbs require a period of dormancy during the winter.

Harvesting

  • Saffron typically blooms in the autumn, around October or November. Harvest the crimson saffron threads shortly after the flowers open, preferably in the morning when they are at their most vibrant and flavorful.

Maintenance

  • After the blooming season, allow the saffron plants to rest in winter. In the following spring, they will start growing again.

Saffron Special Features

  • Common name – Kesar, Saffron
  • Scientific name – Crocus sativus.
  • Height – 15-30 cm
  • Level of growing – Medium

Excellent espresso at home, easy and quick to use
Excellent espresso coffee maker. Prepare a coffee with a very good aroma, perfect cream and intense flavor, like from a coffee shop. It is easy to use, heats up quickly and its design is modern and compact. Very good value for money. Totally recommended!

Fine espresso but poor frother
I wanted to like this, but couldn’t. The good: Makes fine espresso. Uses a typical pressurized portofilter, so there’s no skill to it. It can use normal drip coffee grinds. Looks nice. Has timed (albeit short) presets for single and double shots. But… The display is useless. 198 degrees is the temperature shown…but it never changes. No other status is shown. Might as well say “On” The worst part…the FROTHER. It’s not removable. It’s very hard to clean. It’s got a small orifice that doesn’t froth very well. It just makes A LOT of noise. Not good at 5am. The ones with the removable barrel are quieter and foam better. The foam selector is poorly designed. To go from coffee to steam you have to go past “hot water” which you don’t need in your milk. And then you have to stand by for several seconds while it heats up and pressurizes. Other machines have a much simpler switch design that preheats ahead of time and then steams on command. It’s pretty, but other machines work much better

Nice upgrade 51mm for me
Color: Silver
This is my second 51mm machine. I never used the included handle or basket… I kept my existing HUGH IMS precision basket and bottomless portafilter. The temp and preinfusion are set and not adjustable but fine (reduced variables). I defeated the shut off by volume by setting higher than needed (wish that was easier to turn off). I like to manually shut off when I hit 30g on my scale. The machine will drip since there is not solenoid valve so I just pull the scale from the try when mouse tail breaks and drip starts. The steam wand and hot water dispenser is a massive upgrade (from Capresso EC50) and the real reason for my upgrade. I would have paid $50-100 more for the improvements listed… but I guess most people would not so this is about the best option for me with 51mm (keeping all the 51mm three lug portafilter stuff I own). 5 stars = for me and the price

Reliably makes a good cup of coffee!
Color: Rose Golden, Color: Rose Golden
This espresso machine is great. I wanted something simple and reliable and that’s exactly what it is. In fact, the espresso comes out with a nice creamy coffee froth on top and the flavor is excellent. I don’t normally write reviews, but I think this one is worth it and I want them to stay in business because I’ll probably be sending some of these out as gifts come next Christmas.
