This beautiful native, perennial wildflower takes its name for the brilliant array of red, yellow and orange hues and tendency to create what may look like an Indian Blanket.  

The genus name "Gaillardia" honors an 18th century French botanist named Gaillard de Charentonneau.

Prolific and generous with her blooms, this  Gaillardia has a long blooming time beginning in May through the first frost.  Gaillardia provides pollen and nectar for pollinators and providing forage for birds (specifically goldfinches) at the end of their garden life. 

A perfect companion for a meadow, pollinator garden, rock garden, cottage garden, xeriscaping, border plant or a wildflower garden.  This beautiful native is also highly tolerant to sandy soils and salty conditions, making it a perfect addition to gardens with difficult growing conditions. 

Makes a delightful cut flower and is easy to grow!

Gardener's Tips:

Keep soil moist while seeds are germinating. Resilient and beautiful, this wildflower will thrive in a prepared seed bed, loosened and weed-free. 

Broadcast seeds onto prepared area.  Water until seeds are established.

Avoid over-watering. 

After two years, plant can be divided and replanted. 

Can thrive in poor soil.
