It is suggested for a more flavorful fruit harvest the tree should not be allowed to over-crop. The Honeycrisp was also developed to be more cold hardy and shows good resistance to the common apple tree diseases.  This variety requires pollination by an apple tree of another variety with the same bloom period, which is late spring, planted within 50 feet.
