        Description

Agapanthus 'Elaine' (Lily of the Nile)

Agapanthus, commonly known as Lily of the Nile or African Lily, is a stunning flowering plant that adds a touch of elegance to any garden or landscape. Native to South Africa, Agapanthus is cherished for its striking clusters of trumpet-shaped flowers and its lush, strap-like foliage.

The flowers of Agapanthus come in a range of colors, including shades of purple, and white. They bloom atop tall, sturdy stems that can reach heights of up to three feet, creating a dramatic display in the garden. The flowers attract pollinators like bees and butterflies, adding to the plant's allure.

Agapanthus is a hardy perennial that thrives in full sun to partial shade. It prefers well-draining soil and can tolerate a range of soil types, making it adaptable to various garden conditions. Once established, it is relatively drought-tolerant, making it a low-maintenance choice for gardeners.

The foliage of Agapanthus is evergreen in warmer climates, providing year-round interest. The long, arching leaves form attractive clumps that add structure and texture to the garden even when the plant is not in bloom.

Agapanthus is versatile and can be used in various garden settings. It works well as a border plant, in mass plantings, or as a focal point in containers. It also makes a beautiful cut flower, adding a touch of elegance to floral arrangements.

With its stunning flowers, attractive foliage, and easy-care nature, Agapanthus is a popular choice for gardeners looking to add beauty and sophistication to their outdoor spaces. Whether used in formal gardens or more relaxed landscapes, this plant never fails to make a statement.

        Caring For

        Ideal position Water Temperatures Food

Caring for an Agapanthus plant involves several steps to ensure its healthy growth and beautiful blooms:

        1. Watering: Agapanthus plants are relatively drought-tolerant once established, but they do prefer regular watering during the growing season. Water deeply and allow the soil to dry out slightly between waterings. Reduce watering in the winter when the plant is dormant.

        2. Soil: Agapanthus prefers well-draining soil. It can tolerate a range of soil types, but it does best in a rich, loamy soil. If your soil is heavy clay or sandy, consider amending it with organic matter to improve its texture and fertility.

        3. Light: Plant your Agapanthus in a location where it will receive full sun to partial shade. More sun will encourage more abundant flowering.

        4. Fertilizing: Feed your Agapanthus in the spring with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer to promote healthy growth and flowering. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for application rates.

        5. Pruning: Deadhead spent flowers to encourage more blooms. In late fall or early spring, cut back any dead or yellowing leaves to keep the plant looking tidy.

        6. Overwintering: In colder climates, Agapanthus may need some protection from frost. Mulch around the base of the plant or bring potted Agapanthus indoors.

        7. Pests and Diseases: Agapanthus is generally pest-free, but watch out for common garden pests like slugs and snails. If necessary, treat any infestations with appropriate insecticides or organic pest control methods.

By following these care guidelines, you can ensure that your Agapanthus plant remains healthy and produces its stunning blooms year after year. Regular attention to watering, light, and proper maintenance will help your plant thrive.

        Plant spacing

Plant 3 or 4 feet apart. Come out from the house 3 feet.

If you're planting near a walk or drive, come in at least 3 feet (more if you can) to give the plant room to grow wide without getting in the way.

Allow enough room between Hope and the plants near it...the large leaves may overlap other, smaller plants once the philodendron has begun to mature.

This is a very good plant for large containers - great for balconies, patios, even indoors.

These were my new "Go To" jeans, not so much after a wearing for a year
            Size: 35W x 32L, Color: Antique Indigo, Size: 35W x 32L, Color: Antique Indigo
Love 'em already after only one day of wearing them. I am a 7 days a week, jeans wearing kind of guy pretty much. Office job and recreation. I got scared away from my usual beloved ***tco jeans because of the bad reviews on their site for their now "Made in China" 12.99 jeans which used to be made in Mexico. So off to Amazon to shop for my first Amazon clothes purchase. Found these Antique Indigo Wrangler jeans for just under double the warehouse price. Advantage was they had the exact size I wanted (35Wx32L) vs settling for either 34W or 36W at the warehouse. The waist size was exact. I measured the waist by folding the waist in half and measuring with a tape measure. 17.5 inches exactly (17.5" X 2 = 35"). Didn't measure the length. Color seems to be a tad darker than the Antique Indigo pictured on the website. To me they seem to be in between the Antique Indigo and Antique Navy in color, but that is just my opinion. I guess it could be monitor differences. Doesn't matter to me. Not sure it matters to anyone (it doesn't to me) but I decided to weigh these and compare them to my very worn 34x32 warehouse jeans. These were exactly 30ounces. The warehouse jeans were 27 ounces. These are Made in Mexico of US materials as stated on the tag. These will be my new go to jeans, even at double my usual price, until ***tco goes back to the old Mexican manufacturer. Yes, this is my real opinion not influenced by free or reduced price product for providing a review. Update March 21, 2017: So, here it is a year later. How do they measure up now? I have changed my review from 5 to 3 stars for the following reasons: 1. Weak patch (1/2 star deduction) - The Wrangler "patch" on the back has either ripped or started "peeling" off on two of three pairs purchased. Not that big of a deal as I just remove it completely when it starts hanging. The patch is made of some leatherish paper is the way I would describe it. Doesn't really seem to be cloth and certainly isn't leather. Would be nice and longer lasting if it was real leather. 2. Manufacturing variation (1/2 star deduction) - One pair of the three is maybe one inch shorter than the others. The length of two pairs is the same and long enough to lay on my shoes with a bit to spare. The other pair just barely makes it to my shoes. Not a deal breaker but I am conscious of that pair being shorter when I wear them. 3. Short pocket flaps (1 star deduction) - Not sure how to describe this. The part of the denim that enters the pocket and to which the white pocket material is sewn to, doesn't go deep enough into the pocket. The result is that this part partially pulls out of the pocket (or almost so), making the white pocket material marginally visible. I am very frequently aware of my pocket whites being displayed to the world and am frequently tucking them or pushing them back in. This is the worst aspect of these jeans for me. This might just be an aspect of the way these jeans fit on my body shape. If this denim part that enters into the pocket were just 1/2" or 1" deeper into the pocket, this would not be a problem. So far the durability of the jeans is great, other than the Wrangler patch. They don't really have to survive much in my day-to-day use of them, as I work in an office setting and don't wear a belt with my jeans, but they seem to be a match for the warehouse jeans I used to purchase. Would I buy again? To be honest, I would probably try another brand or maybe another style within the Wrangler family and only come back to these if I could not find anything better based on price and performance. These are okay jeans and I will continue to wear them to the end of their life.

As a tall person, things are normally difficult to find. This seller did well on the packaging and shipping, so I wanted to support them in order to still have a vendor that sells my sizes. These jeans in particular did fit me nicely.
