Established plants may flower, producing typical Anthurium spathes and spadices. Indoors, the climbing stems and arrow-shaped leaves are usually more noticeable than the flowers.

In Ecuador, Anthurium balaoanum grows in wet tropical habitats as a subshrub or epiphyte, often on trees. In a pot, it does best with an airy root zone, steady warmth and a structure it can climb.

What the name means

The genus Anthurium refers to the flower and its tail-like spadix. The species name balaoanum refers to Balao in Ecuador.
