Description

The red Christmas cactus is a preferred houseplant and for a good reason. When they flower, they generate colorful, tubular blossoms in beautiful red shades. These lovely flowers, their lengthy bloom time, and easy care makes them a remarkable plant. Someone in your household or on your friend's list would likely adore this vibrant red addition to their home during the holidays.

Unlike numerous varieties of other cacti, the Red Christmas Cactus and their family members do not reside in dry environments. Their natural behavior is one of an Epiphyte living in tree branches in the tropical rainforest of Brazil. In other words, they like a damp climate, not a dry one, so it's important to water these cacti more frequently than most succulents.

How To Care

As quickly as the leading inch of soil in the container feels dry to the touch, soak the soil till water runs through the pot's drainage openings; discard water in the tray so the plant doesn't sit in water. It's especially vital to water well while the plant is flowering.

From spring through very early fall, feed every 2 weeks with a balanced houseplant fertilizer. Throughout the fall and also winter, feed the cactus monthly.

Prune these beauties in June to motivate branching and much more flowers. Simply removed a couple of sections of each stem. If you wish, position the cut sections in damp vermiculite to make even more plants-- they root easily. If your cactus is not blooming, it may be because of the amount of daylight they're getting or the temperature.

To set off blooming, evenings need to be a minimum of 14 hours long as well as days in between 8 to 10 hours for 6 weeks. If you have strong indoor lighting in the evening, you might need to cover your cactus.

Flowers will just develop when the temperature is between a cool 50 to 55 ° F (10 to 13 ° C).

If the cactus drops its buds one winter, don't stress: it should grow the following year.

Landscape Ideas

The Red Christmas Cacti, commonly used as a holiday house plant, grow well in most container soils, as long as it drains well. Make sure that your pots have drainage holes.

Plants should be kept in bright, indirect light.
A daytime temperature of 70°F (21°C) and an evening temperature of 60-65°F (15-18°C) is preferred.

In the summer, Red Christmas Cacti can be placed in a shady spot in the garden or in an unheated porch until temperatures get below 50°F (10°C).

Large is a little big for Bostons
Color: Dogwood (Brown), Size: Large (Pack of 1)
Seems to be durable for 2 VERY agressive chewer Boston Terriers. Cricket and Alice are shockingly good at chewing - grateful they pick to do so with thier toys. Trial vs other name brand competitor. PetStages' is a little larger so harder to bite on fir small dogs, but seems to be equally durable. While PetStages proudly states it has real wood fiber and scent (whoch I thought would win)... they prefered the other. Both dogs love to chew on real sticks. But, when the bossy one indicated she was taking over the stick the other dog had, they exchanged, and kept chewing, over and over, back and forth. I mean to say, whatever the prefered stick was at first didnt seem to matter later. These super hard chew toys do make me nervous. One dog broke a tooth last summer on a different brand toy, a very expensive extraction bill, and poor pup's terrible discomfort... but the other did not and has amazing white teeth, all around.... so.

The best chew ever for a strong chewer
Color: Dogwood (Brown), Size: Large (Pack of 1)
We have a 77lb goldendoodle who loves these. We’re lucky because he doesn’t chew on anything other than his toys, but when he starts on this…he really goes at it. It’s healthy, (not synthetic), doesn’t break apart, (no pieces to worry about him swallowing), it just perfect for him. The noise may get on your nerves but it’s a small price to pay to keep him from chewing on your furniture, shoes, or anything else a mischievous dog can find.

Little pieces break off
Color: Dogwood (Brown), Size: Large (Pack of 1)
My dog is obsessed with this. It does last a long time even given her strong chewing capabilities. I wish it was a little bigger. The main reason I rated it so low is when my dog is chewing on this it breaks off a little plastic peice and sometimes it hits the back of her throat making her cough so you have to supervise with this.

Great for aggressive chewers
Color: Dogwood (Brown), Size: Large (Pack of 1)
My dog is an aggressive chewer so they are great for her. I would love to have one a bit thinner so it could fit in a holder so it is easier for her to hold while eating. This keeps her busy and is long lasting. I have purchased these multiple times.
