Growing Instructions

Plant Forsythia Lynwood Gold in the spring after all danger of frost has passed. Soil preparation: Forsythia prefers rich, well-drained soil in full sun. Planting: Dig a hole 8-10" deep and wide enough so the roots can be spread apart. Return soil loosely to the depth needed by the plant, so that all of its roots will be covered with about 2" of soil. Place plant in hole, spread roots and fill with good loose garden soil. Watering: Water thoroughly at planting. While actively growing, water frequently and thoroughly so that water will reach roots. Mulching: Mulch to keep the soil cool and prevent soil from drying out. Fertilizing: Fertilize newly planted forsythia after a year with an all purpose slow acting granular fertilizer. Sprinkle a cup full in fall beneath the shrub and 18" beyond the branch tips to allow rain to soak in. Decomposing mulch can also provide nutrients to the soil.

Care Tip

Forysthia thrives in almost any soil that is well-drained, loamy and has enough humus to maintain moisture. The more sun your plant receives, the better the blooms performance. Water your forsythia regularly while the plant is getting established. Once your plant starts showing healthy new growth, water only during hot, dry spells. Forsythia is a prolific grower so do not over fertilize as they need little encouragement to flourish.
