Detailed Description:
Casuarina 'Cousin It' is a distinctive and hardy groundcover plant, valued for its dense, cascading form and adaptability to a wide range of environments. First propagated from prostrate forms found near Booderee National Park in 1989, this selection has proven to be an exceptional performer in both natural and cultivated landscapes. Over time, it has become a favorite for suppressing weeds, preventing erosion, and creating habitat for small reptiles and invertebrates.

This selection of Casuarina glauca does not produce flowers, and its exact growth form is still not fully understood. Instead of traditional leaves, the plant features tiny, ring-like 'teeth' along the waxy, deeply grooved stems, which enable efficient photosynthesis and help the plant retain moisture in dry conditions. These adaptations make it highly resistant to coastal exposure, strong winds, and prolonged dry periods.

Casuarina 'Cousin It' thrives in a wide range of soil types, from sandy, arid soils to waterlogged conditions. It benefits from a natural symbiotic relationship with Frankia soil bacteria, which assist in nitrogen fixation, promoting healthier soil. Heavy frosts may damage the upper foliage, but the plant reliably reshoots from the stems in spring.

The dense foliage not only stabilizes soil and traps wind-blown sand but also contributes to moisture retention by forming a thick litter layer. In some regions, cultivated stems of Casuarina glauca have even been used in livestock feed due to their moderate nutritional value.

This prostrate variety is perfect for mass planting on slopes, cascading over retaining walls, or filling large garden spaces with low-maintenance greenery. It can also be grown in hanging baskets and planter boxes for a unique visual effect.

Planting Benefits:

  • Aesthetic Appeal: The cascading, fine-textured foliage adds movement and a sculptural quality to landscapes.
  • Low Maintenance: Requires minimal care once established, making it a great choice for effortless landscaping.
  • Erosion Control: Sprawling, dense growth stabilizes slopes, embankments, and sandy coastal areas.
  • Drought & Frost Tolerance: Handles extreme conditions, reshooting after frost damage.
  • Wildlife Habitat: Provides shelter for small reptiles and invertebrates.
  • Weed Suppression: Dense coverage helps prevent weed growth.
  • Versatility: Suitable for groundcover, embankments, rockeries, hanging baskets, and coastal gardens.

Casuarina 'Cousin It' is an exceptional plant that combines striking aesthetics with practical benefits. Whether used for erosion control, as a feature plant, or in a low-maintenance landscape, it is a resilient and visually captivating addition to any garden.

Wonderful, super soft but very heavy.
Color: Champagne Fawn, Size: 60"x80"
Very well-made very soft easy to clean. The only bad thing is it is so heavy. It’s like a super weighted blanket. It will keep you warm on the coldest of nights that’s guaranteed, but it’s really really heavy. Other than that. I absolutely love it. I use it as a comforter on my bed.

Gorgeous Blanket
Color: Smoky Sable, Size: 60"x80", Color: Smoky Sable, Size: 60"x80"
Beautiful smoky sable brown. It’s wonderfully soft and fluffy. It’s kind of a unique color of brown and it’s made very well. Quality item. Could be used for all seasons since it has the fur on one side and the smooth velvet on the back which is not too hot in warmer months. The first one I ordered had a strange oily spot on it but the seller was very kind gave me a refund and sent me another one for free. Definitely recommend the product and the seller! The fur looks lighter in my pictures. It’s actually a good bit darker than what is depicted.

Soft and luxurious, high quality - but don't buy if you have cats
Color: Ivory White, Size: 2' x 6' (Sheepskin Shape)
I give the rug a five-star rating because it deserves it. I was really surprised at how good the rug is right out of the package (it was packaged very well too). Because this rug is relatively less expensive than many other listings of natural sheepskin rugs on Amazon and elsewhere, I wasn't expecting much. But it turned out to be thick, soft, fluffy, plush, and luxurious all over. Many years ago I have purchased another natural sheepskin rug from Amazon described to be of the same size as this one (I got the 2'*6' one), but this one is definitely much bigger in its actual size. It's hands-down a high-quality, high-value purchase if you want a nice natural sheepskin rug. I also love how beautiful the natural creamy white color is. Now, the story takes a turn. It does have a "natural and organic" smell as mentioned in many other reviews. The smell itself is not repulsive. I don't know how long it will take for it to air out (my last rug never really got rid of the smell, but it was not a big issue since I put it on the floor. I lost the rug in cross country moving.) But now I have a cat! My cat just couldn't resist tackling the rug the moment it was laid on the floor. She probably imagined herself to be a lion or a tiger who just caught some big prey. She couldn't stop kicking and biting the rug, trying to tear it apart. She came back to it a few times after breaks already. And this is day one. I am guessing this smell does stimulate some instinctive call from her genes. In a few short moments, she managed to tear off quite some fur from the edge of the rug... The rug still looks fine since I just received it today. I am not sure how long it will last with my cat though. Before ordering, I thought about this possibility and googled whether cats and sheepskin rugs can co-exist. I got many cute picture results showing angelic cats resting contently in the long and soft sheepskin fur, looking totally adorable and peaceful. Many articles say that natural rugs calm our fluffy friends down. Well, I told myself "perfect!" Win-win for me and my cat. Now, here we are, the beginning of my cat's conquest of an imaginary lamb (which was a real lamb.) I cannot even return it since it has already been damaged by my cat... In the worst case, this rug would become a really expensive cat entertainment piece that would eventually be destroyed....:((( I even started feeling guilty for buying animal-based products - but then comforted myself by remembering reading somewhere that cow and lamb leather goods come from animals that would be slaughtered for meat consumption anyways. My cat is already eating canned food containing Australian lamb, etc, etc. Really need to stop the thoughts. So this is my review. Beautiful rug of excellent quality and unbeatable value, unless you have a cat(s).
