String of Buttons | Necklace Vine

Crassula perforata, commonly known as String of Buttons or Necklace Vine, is a charming and architectural succulent that brings playful structure to any plant collection. Native to South Africa, this fast-growing species features stacked, triangular leaves arranged in a neat spiral along upright to trailing stems. When grown in bright light, the foliage develops attractive pink to red margins, adding extra colour and character.

With its cascading habit and easy-care nature, Crassula perforata is ideal for hanging baskets, mixed succulent planters, rock gardens, and modern indoor displays.

Main Features

• Distinctive stacked leaves arranged in a spiral formation
• Green to bluish-green foliage with pink to red edges in bright light
• Fast-growing and very easy to propagate
• Excellent for trailing displays and mixed succulent arrangements
• Drought-tolerant and beginner-friendly

Care Tips

Light: Bright, indirect light or partial sun. Full sun enhances red leaf margins
Watering: Water thoroughly once soil is completely dry. Reduce watering in winter
Soil: Well-draining cactus or succulent mix with added perlite or sand
Temperature: Prefers warm conditions (15–28°C). Protect from frost
Fertiliser: Feed lightly with diluted succulent fertiliser during spring and summer
Propagation: Easily propagated from stem cuttings—allow cut ends to callus before planting

Why You’ll Love It

Crassula perforata combines sculptural charm with effortless care. Its unique stacked form, vibrant edging, and trailing habit make it a standout choice for both beginners and collectors looking to add texture and movement to their succulent displays.

The first photo serves a display purpose only. The succulent plant housed in the red pot comes in a 80mm diameter container. While the image provides a representative depiction of what you will receive, but may vary slightly because no two succulents are the same.

Indestructible
Color: Onyx Black - Most Durable
This is actually indestrutible! Be careful though, it's wicked hard/heavy. It isn't a ball you want banging into things. Use outside!!

Not indestructible, but the best I’ve found
Color: Onyx Black - Most Durable, Color: Onyx Black - Most Durable
This thing is unexpectedly heavy for its size. My 18 month old Giant Schnauzer is obsessed with fetch but destroys every ball she gets. The other brands marketed for extreme chewers tend to last about a day or two before they’re totally shredded. She’s had this one for about 2 weeks and it’s looking rough, but still holding together for the most part. I appreciate that as it comes apart it does so in little pieces rather than large chunks. While it’s far from indestructible, it’s the strongest I’ve found so far.

Great product! Quickly became my Pit Princess's favorite toy! The size, weight, and material is perfect for a big dog. Now we have fetch ball that has proven itself to be worthy!

Finally, a toy my dog hasn’t murdered
If your dog destroys toys like it’s their full-time job, this stick is the boss-level challenge they didn’t see coming. I gave it to my power-chewer (a pit mix with jaws of steel), and after a week of gnawing, tossing, and dramatic tug-of-war battles, it’s still intact. Not even a dent. I think it might be made of space-grade rubber or the same stuff they use in black boxes. It’s got a good weight to it — heavy enough to feel solid, light enough to toss without pulling a shoulder. No squeaker, no fluff, no sad stuffing guts all over the living room. Just pure chewable glory. Pros: • Actually indestructible (or close enough) • Great for aggressive chewers • No squeaker = peace and quiet • Easy to clean and doesn’t smell weird • Doubles as a fetch toy and chew stick Minor feedback: It’s a bit heavy for small dogs, and it doesn’t bounce or squeak — but if your dog’s into serious chewing, they won’t care. Also, don’t drop it on your foot. Trust me. Final thoughts: This toy is the Chuck Norris of dog sticks. If your pup has shredded everything else, give this a shot. It might just survive — and so might your sanity.
