Alocasia 'Dragon Tail'

Alocasia 'Dragon Tail' has green leaves that curl into cupped, crinkled blades with folded margins. The irregular edge line gives each leaf a naturally uneven outline.

The natural curl belongs to the plant’s appearance, while sudden new distortion together with spotting, webbing or black specks needs a closer check. Leaf folds and crinkled edges can hide pests, dry margins and early stress marks.

Crinkled foliage and petiole habit

  • Leaf shape: Green leaves with a curled, cupped or crinkled outline.
  • Leaf edges: Folded and uneven margins that give the foliage its irregular shape.
  • Growth style: Upright Alocasia growth from a rhizomatous base, with leaves held on fleshy petioles.
  • Inspection points: Leaf folds, undersides and petiole bases need regular checks for pests and residue.
  • Root care: Warmth, bright filtered light and an airy substrate keep the root zone easier to manage.

Curled leaves and root-zone care

Alocasia 'Dragon Tail' develops its curled leaf form naturally. The crinkled surface and folded margins are part of the plant, while soft stems, yellowing from the base or sudden spotting point to stress in the roots, leaves or growing point.

A breathable potting mix is especially important because the plant grows from an Alocasia-style rhizomatous base. Roots need moisture during active growth, and they also need air around them between waterings.

Care for curled-leaf Alocasia 'Dragon Tail'

  • Light: Keep in bright filtered light. Direct sun can scorch folded edges, while weak light can stretch the petioles.
  • Watering: Water when the upper few centimetres of substrate have dried. Let the pot drain fully before placing it back into a cover pot.
  • Root mix: Use an airy aroid mix with coarse bark, coco chips, pumice, perlite or similar drainage material.
  • Humidity: Moderate to high humidity helps new curled leaves open with fewer dry creases. Very dry air can mark the edges first.
  • Warmth: Keep warm and stable, preferably above 18 °C. Cold wet roots can lead to yellow leaves and petiole collapse.
  • Feeding: Feed lightly during active growth. A low, steady fertiliser dose is safer than strong feeding on a small root system.
  • Pot size: Keep the pot close to the size of the root ball. Excess empty substrate holds water longer than the roots can use it.
  • Pest checks: Inspect inside folds and along the undersides of leaves for spider mites, thrips and early feeding marks.

Troubleshooting curled Alocasia leaves

  • Brown crinkled edges: Dry air, salt build-up, underwatering swings or direct sun can mark the folded margins.
  • Soft petioles: Check for wet, cold or compact substrate around the rhizome.
  • Sudden yellowing: Often linked to root stress, especially after overwatering or a cold period.
  • Distorted new growth: Look for pests inside the unfurling leaf before changing the whole care routine.
  • Fine webbing or stippling: Spider mites can hide in the folds and along the midrib.

Safety around pets

Alocasia 'Dragon Tail' is not safe for pets to chew. Like other Alocasia, it contains calcium oxalate crystals that can irritate the mouth, throat and stomach.

Genus background

Alocasia is an Araceae genus published as Alocasia (Schott) G.Don. The genus name is tied to Colocasia and its older Greek root kolokasia.

Not bulky fit
Size: Large, Color: (009) Gray Dawn / White / Prime Pink
Thinner than UA other cushioning run socks, but this fit is perfect and doesn't shift in my shoe. I wear a women's 9.5 and determined Large doesn't squeeze my foot like Medium size (too exact). Bonus... avaliable olors beyond black and Grey.

Love these socks!
The wife struggles with socks. She only like the Nike ones, then they discontinued them, so had to start the search again! Found these, they are expensive just like the Nike, but the size is true, they look great, they are super soft and stretchy. They are light weight and breathable and seem to wick away moisture. She loves these!
